In a magnificent celebration of British aviation prowess, nine jets from the UK’s Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, better known as the Red Arrows, have taken to the skies this week over Niagara Falls in a breathtaking flypast.
This striking aerial display, which also featured an historic Lancaster bomber, was part of the team’s five-week tour of Canada, timed to mark the centennial of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
Thousands of onlookers gathered at the iconic Canadian landmark, watching in awe as the Red Arrows’ Hawk jets made several passes, trailing behind the revered Avro Lancaster—one of only two of its kind still in flight. For the first pass, the jets took on a formation mimicking the distinctive silhouette of the Lancaster bomber, a tribute to the aircraft’s illustrious role in Second World War history.
The crowd was not left disappointed, as the Red Arrows executed further flyovers in various formations, showcasing their renowned precision and the skill that has made them one of the world’s premier aerobatic display teams.
This tour, aptly named Maple Hawk, is not only a commemoration of the RCAF’s centennial, but also serves to promote a variety of UK interests and to celebrate the enduring ties between Canada and the United Kingdom.
In addition to the RCAF milestone, the Red Arrows themselves are celebrating their own significant anniversary—2024 marks the team’s 60th diamond display season.
This stunning flypast over Niagara Falls is one of the highlights of the Red Arrows’ Canadian tour, which will continue this weekend with a performance at Airshow London in Ontario. Earlier this month, the team dazzled a crowd of over one million spectators at the 75th Canadian International Air Show in nearby Toronto, further cementing their reputation as one of Britain’s finest exports.
