When Giorgia Meloni ascended to the helm of Italy’s government in 2022, the left-wing commentariat and the global media elite were quick to sharpen their knives.
The airwaves were filled with shrill cries of “fascism reborn!” and hand-wringing headlines declared Meloni a far-right menace, poised to plunge Italy back into the dark days of authoritarianism. Oh, how the doomsayers quivered and quaked.
Yet here we stand, scarcely two years into her premiership, and what do we see? Not the chaos and calamity that was foretold, but a nation that is positively flourishing under her ‘far-right’ stewardship.
World leaders who once viewed her with suspicion are now queuing up, eager to meet Italy’s Prime Minister and bask in her undeniable glow. The woman once painted as Europe’s far-right bogeyman has now become a political rockstar, leading Italy to record economic growth and historic lows in unemployment.

It’s a remarkable reversal, and one that speaks volumes about the power of effective leadership—and perhaps even more about the chattering classes’ inability to recognise it.
Let’s look at the numbers, shall we? Italy’s economy is surging with growth not seen in decades. Unemployment is at a record low, and Meloni’s resolute stance on tackling illegal immigration has restored a sense of order to Italy’s borders, much to the delight of her supporters. Her popularity ratings are soaring, reflecting a nation that, far from being terrorised by this so-called “far-right monster,” is thriving under her watch.
And all this while navigating personal challenges with grace. Meloni’s recent separation from her partner would have knocked the wind out of most, but not her. She’s kept that radiant smile on her face—a smile that brightens up the otherwise drab meetings of the G7, and a smile that seems to say: “I’ve got this.” Little wonder, then, that even Elon Musk, a man not easily impressed, is captivated. Last night he presented her with a Global Citizen Award, acknowledging not just her political achievements but also her embodiment of resilience and resolve.
At an awards ceremony in New York, Musk described it as an “honour” to recognise someone who is “even more beautiful on the inside than she is on the outside.”
Musk went on to commend Meloni’s character, saying, “She is someone who is authentic, honest, truthful — qualities that aren’t always associated with politicians.”
But this should surprise no one who has been paying attention. Meloni has shown herself to be a leader of extraordinary tenacity and vision. She has proven her critics wrong at every turn, not by shouting them down, but by delivering tangible results for the Italian people. Whether it’s cutting red tape for businesses, reforming welfare, or standing firm on Italy’s national interests, she’s managed to balance pragmatism with principle—a rare feat in today’s political landscape.
The irony, of course, is delicious. The same lefty commentators who wrung their hands and clutched their pearls at the thought of Meloni in power are now forced to grapple with her undeniable success. Italy, once seen as the weak link in Europe’s economic chain, is now a model of recovery and stability. The naysayers, who predicted a descent into chaos, must now contend with the fact that Italy, under Meloni, is enjoying a renaissance of its own.

So, where does this leave the narrative spun by her detractors? In tatters, I’m afraid. Giorgia Meloni has shown that principled leadership and a clear vision can overcome even the most vitriolic opposition. The left can continue to shout from the rooftops, but the reality on the ground tells a different story: one of a nation that is stronger, more prosperous, and more united than it has been in years.
No wonder Elon loves her. No wonder world leaders are queuing up. Giorgia Meloni, once dismissed as a far-right monster, is now a beacon of effective governance. And if her smile lights up a few dull diplomatic meetings along the way, who are we to complain? Bravo, Giorgia. Keep proving them wrong.
