U.S. Federal investigators have published a photograph of a man they want to question following the fatal shooting yesterday of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.
The image, described as grainy, shows a white male wearing dark sunglasses, a baseball cap and a black hoodie featuring what appears to be an eagle and the American flag. Officials said he is considered a “person of interest” in the case.
Kirk was struck by a single bullet while addressing a crowd of about 3,000 people on Wednesday. According to the FBI, the shot came from the rooftop of a university building roughly 200 yards from the event. The attacker fled the scene on foot and was last seen moving into a nearby neighborhood.
Appeal for information
Authorities confirmed they are in possession of security camera footage showing the suspected shooter but have decided not to release it publicly at this stage. Instead, investigators have urged witnesses to come forward with photographs or recordings from the day of the incident.
A .30 calibre hunting rifle was later discovered in woodland close to the campus. The Wall Street Journal reported that casings found near the weapon carried “engravings” referencing Antifa and trans ideology. Similar markings were said to be present inside the firearm.
National impact
Kirk’s death has reverberated across the political spectrum in the United States. Former president Donald Trump praised him as a “fearless advocate” while tributes also poured in from senior administration figures and political allies across the world.
The FBI has not provided additional details about the man in the released photograph. The investigation remains ongoing.
