Keir Starmer has been sensationally accused of misleading the British public with a staggering 25 false claims during Prime Minister’s Questions — and now Conservative MP Nick Timothy has the receipts to prove it.

In a forensic takedown posted to X (formerly Twitter), Nick Timothy, the Conservative MP for West Suffolk, said he was so appalled by Starmer’s performance at the despatch box that he went line-by-line through the PM’s claims — and discovered a string of blatant untruths, distortions, and dodges.

“In PMQs on Wednesday I was so shocked by Keir Starmer’s lies and obfuscation I went through the record and found he told 25 porkies in only 30 minutes,” Timothy wrote, kicking off a detailed exposé that’s already going viral.

From fudging economic data to re-writing history and inventing financial black holes, Starmer’s statements were systematically dismantled with publicly available sources, including the Bank of England, the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), and the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Some of the Top Lies – Laid Bare

1. Interest Rates “Were at 11%” Under the Conservatives?

Starmer claimed the Tories left the country with 11% interest rates. In reality, the rate never exceeded 5.25% during the Conservatives’ 14 years in office — and for most of that time, it was below 1%. [Source: Bank of England]

2. A “£22 Billion Black Hole”?

Timothy debunked this classic scare tactic. The OBR itself said “nothing legitimises” this claim. The actual fiscal gap stems from Labour’s own increased spending – a whopping £76 billion, far above the £9.5bn in their manifesto. [Source: OBR Report, Oct 2024]

3. “The Tories Crashed the Economy”

A favourite Labour line, but totally false, says Timothy. GDP did dip during COVID, but the economy never crashed. Ironically, government borrowing costs are higher now under Labour’s Rachel Reeves than they were under Liz Truss. [Source: ONS]

More Fibs from the PM’s Playbook

Timothy listed dozens more falsehoods, including:

  • Minimum wage manipulation – Starmer claimed Tory opposition, but in fact, Conservatives increased it dramatically, especially for apprentices.
  • NHS investment – Labour heralded record investment, but real-terms increases are devoured by pay hikes, and school capital budgets have been slashed.
  • Defence spending smoke and mirrors – The PM claimed a £13bn boost, but only £6bn is accounted for.
  • Hospice funding farce – Labour boasted of £100m for hospices, but this is spread over two years and doesn’t even cover losses from tax hikes on care services.
  • Welfare hypocrisy – Starmer said the system is “broken” but previously promised to scrap Universal Credit, which he now backs.

A Pattern of Deception?

What makes Timothy’s thread so explosive isn’t just the number of mistruths — it’s how easily disproven they are. Starmer has long portrayed himself as the grown-up, the truth-teller, the anti-spin politician. But this thread shreds that illusion.

“Either the PM doesn’t understand his own policies — or he’s deliberately trying to fool the public,” a senior Tory source told the Conservative and Reformer Post.

Tory MPs Demand Accountability

With Starmer under pressure from both inside and outside Westminster, calls are growing for the PM to correct the record. Several readers have now suggested Speaker Lindsay Hoyle intervene if the Prime Minister refuses to set the record straight.

“This isn’t a slip of the tongue,” said one reader. “It’s a pattern. Keir Starmer stood there in the House of Commons and rattled off lie after lie — and he did it with a straight face. The man is a barefaced liar. He lied to us all about getting into office and now he’s lying through his teeth about everything. Something must be done.”

Another commentator said: “Question is, what can be done about it? I, and no doubt many others, are sick of it. It’s a pantomime. A chimps tea party. A joke. Because there is no other way to hold this PM and his cabinet to account. Every MSM piece is a ‘puff piece’.”

Read It for Yourself

Nick Timothy’s full X thread, complete with sources, graphs, and links, has attracted thousands of views and is being hailed as one of the most comprehensive fact-checks of the Labour Prime Minister ever posted on social media.
