“This is a shocking indictment of four weeks of Labour in power – four years of this will be unbearable.”
It’s just over a month since the General Election and former Prime Minister Liz Truss has called out her Labour successor as MP for South West Norfolk for “a trial of broken promises” and “betrayal.”
In the 2024 General Election, Ms Truss lost her seat in South West Norfolk to Labour’s Terry Jermy, who just won with just a 630 majority after Reform split the Conservative vote almost in half.
According to Ms Truss, the new Labour MP has already begun reversing the progress of building a new hospital for the area for which she had helped secure funding.
Truss also highlights the fact her Labour successor has not yet asked a single oral or written question or made any intervention in the House of Commons chamber.
Taking to social media Ms Truss said:
“One month on from the General Election and my Labour successor as MP for South West Norfolk has already left a trail of broken promises and betrayal in his wake.
“A series of announcements from the newly-elected Labour Government backed by Terry Jermy, the area’s new MP, will have a severely detrimental impact on local residents.
“I worked with fellow Conservative MP James Wild to secure funding for a new hospital to replace the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, but the Labour Government has now put the new hospital in doubt by instigating a review of that decision.
“The Government has also told thousands of vulnerable Norfolk pensioners that they are taking away the Winter Fuel Allowance on which they rely to heat their homes during the coldest months.
“And we now face the misery of limited access to GP appointments after the doctors’ union voted to take industrial action – presumably encouraged by the Chancellor caving in to other public sector unions with a £9 billion bonanza of inflation-busting pay rises.
“This is a shocking indictment of four weeks of Labour in power – four years of this will be unbearable for people in South West Norfolk.
“Whereas nearly forty percent of the newly-elected MPs made their maiden speech before the House of Commons rose for the long summer recess, Terry Jermy was not among them. He has also not yet asked a single oral or written question or made any intervention in the House of Commons chamber.”

“Liz Truss and the Conservatives had a track record of delivering for the people of South West Norfolk, including getting the funding for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Four weeks in, and already Labour and Terry Jermy are reversing this progress.
“Our new MP has put the Labour Party’s agenda before the people of Norfolk – jeopardising the future of the QEH. Jermy has not said he will vote against taking the Winter Fuel Allowance away from pensioners and is already back-tracking on the pledges made during the election campaign.”
