The very foundations of modern democracy were laid, not in the shadow of some vast empire, but on English soil, with the bold assertion that no man, not even a king, stands above the law.
From these island shores emerged the bedrock principles that would underpin the United States Constitution, inspire the French Declaration of the Rights of Man, and resonate in every free society across our planet.
And what of our scientific and technological marvels? Isaac Newton, in his solitary contemplation beneath a humble apple tree, unravelled the mysteries of gravity. Between 1808 and 1867, the Royal Navy intercepted over 1,600 slave ships and freed more than 150,000 captives, delivering them to freedom in Sierra Leone, a British colony founded specifically to resettle freed slaves. Britain also paid out the modern equivalent of over £20 billion to compensate slave owners, crippling the economy in the short term but standing by its moral convictions.

The honeyed stone of Bath, the dreaming spires of Oxford, the majestic grandeur of Edinburgh Castle, and the wild, untamed beauty of the Scottish Highlands. From the tranquil Lake District to the rugged coastlines of Cornwall, Britain is a land that delights the soul and inspires the imagination.
So, let us stand tall and proud. We are the heirs of Magna Carta, the protectors of liberty, the pioneers of industry, science, and culture.
