With an ever-increasing presence in the nation’s helicopter market, Airbus Helicopters in the UK recently moved to a new purpose-built headquarters.
This state-of-the-art facility not only highlights the company’s 50-year heritage in the UK but also its commitment to innovation, growth, and supporting critical national missions.

The impressive 11,700m² headquarters is more than just an upgrade; it’s a symbol of Airbus Helicopters’ increasing presence in the UK’s aerospace sector. The facility supports completions, retrofits, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for a wide range of helicopters, including those used by police forces, air ambulance services, and the UK Armed Forces.
Managing Director Lenny Brown is optimistic about the new HQ’s potential. “The new premises are going to be absolutely transformative and will give us a vastly improved working environment. There is much more space, it’s more comfortable, and there’s the potential to develop the kinds of leading-edge systems that will underpin our growth,” he said.
The facility also boasts eight landing pads, capable of accommodating every model in the Airbus Helicopters fleet, from compact civilian craft to larger military rotorcraft.
A Vital Role in the UK’s Aerospace Landscape
Airbus Helicopters plays an integral role in Britain’s civil and defence infrastructure, supporting operations ranging from law enforcement to offshore energy missions. Its helicopters dominate critical services in the UK, including:
- Police Aviation: Airbus provides 100% of the UK’s police helicopter fleet through the National Police Air Service (NPAS), ensuring rapid-response capabilities.
- Air Ambulances: Two-thirds of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s air ambulances are Airbus models like the H135 and H145, equipped with cutting-edge medical technology.
- Military Training: Every UK military helicopter pilot and rear crew member trains on Airbus H135 Juno and H145 Jupiter helicopters. Around 150 Airbus technicians are embedded within military operations, ensuring seamless support.
Brown underscored the company’s pivotal contributions: “We have 150 employees at RAF Shawbury totally dedicated to supporting the entire fleet of 36 Junos and Jupiters used for the UK’s Military Flight Training System.”

As a certified Design and Production Organisation, Airbus Helicopters in the UK develops customised solutions for a diverse client base, from police forces to luxury helicopter buyers. Whether it’s designing bespoke interiors for corporate clients or installing specialised technical equipment, the UK team offers world-class innovation.
The Airbus Helicopters Training Academy at Oxford further bolsters the company’s reputation. Training more than 400 pilots and technicians annually, it’s the only UK organisation approved to deliver Part 147-certified Airbus Helicopters B2 courses. This ensures pilots and engineers alike are equipped to operate and maintain the most advanced rotorcraft.
Meeting National Needs

The company’s H145 helicopter, with its advanced five-blade rotor, has proven a game-changer in the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) sector. Brown sees opportunities for further growth, particularly in the replacement of ageing fleets in military and parapublic markets.
“Fleet replacement will be important in the military and parapublic markets. The five-blade rotor H145 is proving hugely popular in the HEMS segment—so we expect continued success,” said Brown.
