BREXIT WIN: Britain Secures Major Post Brexit Trade Win with Gulf States

Britain is set to secure one of its most significant post Brexit trade agreements yet, as the Gulf Cooperation Council and the United Kingdom prepare to sign a landmark joint statement formally concluding negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement.

The agreement, due to be signed today in London (Wednesday, May 20) marks a major milestone in Britain’s drive to strengthen global trade ties outside the European Union and deepen economic partnerships with some of the world’s fastest growing markets.

The Gulf Cooperation Council, comprising Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, confirmed that negotiations had successfully concluded following a series of intensive talks and high level meetings between both sides.

GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi described the deal as a significant step forward in strengthening strategic cooperation across trade, investment and wider economic sectors.

He said the agreement reflected the shared commitment of Britain and the Gulf states to expand bilateral commerce, create stronger investment opportunities and support long term economic growth.

The deal is expected to open global markets to a broader range of British and Gulf products and services, while strengthening supply chains and encouraging cross border investment at a time of growing uncertainty in the global economy.

For Britain, the agreement represents another major example of the opportunities created by Brexit, allowing the UK to pursue independent trade arrangements tailored to national economic interests and growth sectors.

The Gulf region has become increasingly important to Britain’s global trade ambitions, with strong demand for UK expertise in finance, technology, defence, education, infrastructure and professional services.

Albudaiwi said the agreement also reflected the growing economic strength of GCC member states and aligned with the bloc’s wider strategy of building effective international partnerships based on mutual interests, sustainable development and economic diversification.

Once formally implemented, the Free Trade Agreement is expected to strengthen one of Britain’s most valuable economic relationships outside Europe and create fresh opportunities for exporters, investors and businesses across both markets.

The agreement comes as the UK continues to position itself as a globally focused trading nation, pursuing deeper economic partnerships with key international allies and high growth regions around the world.
