Britain’s Armed Forces have taken centre stage in NATO’s largest military exercise of 2025, with Exercise STEADFAST DART (STDT25) showcasing the UK’s ability to lead and rapidly deploy its forces in response to potential threats.
The exercise, which ran throughout January and February, saw the first large-scale deployment of the NATO Allied Reaction Force (ARF), reinforcing the Alliance’s defensive posture in Romania and Bulgaria.
British forces played a pivotal role, spearheading operations and demonstrating the UK’s exceptional military capabilities and leadership.

STEADFAST DART saw an impressive mobilisation of Allied forces, with British troops, naval power, and air support leading the charge. Participating nations included Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom, but it was the UK’s elite forces that set the benchmark for excellence.
In total, NATO moved:
- 10,000 personnel, with British troops at the forefront
- 1,500 military vehicles, including cutting-edge British armour
- 20 aircraft, featuring RAF Typhoons and cutting-edge drones
- 17 naval assets, including the Royal Navy’s state-of-the-art warships
