What kind of country lets a hostile authoritarian regime build a secretive mega-compound, complete with underground bunkers, just yards from its most sensitive financial and government infrastructure?
Apparently, Britain does. Or at least it will, if Angela Rayner and the Labour government don’t come to their senses.
The Chinese Communist Party is trying to muscle a sprawling “diplomatic” fortress into the symbolic heart of London. The so-called embassy, located at the historic Royal Mint Court opposite the Tower of London, is set to be the largest Chinese mission in Europe, roughly the size of two football pitches. And yet crucial parts of the architectural plans are still redacted. Hidden. Greyed out. Buried in secrecy.
What’s underneath this concrete colossus? Beijing refuses to say. Spy rooms? Server banks? Interrogation cells? Your guess is as good as Angela Rayner’s, because China just told her to mind her own business.
After Rayner gave the Chinese authorities two weeks to explain why five internal drawings were censored “for security reasons”, the Communist regime responded with all the subtlety of a clenched fist: No. According to their representatives, it’s “not necessary or appropriate” to explain themselves. Translation: “We’ll build what we like, where we like, and you’ll shut up about it.”
And astonishingly, Labour seems to be doing just that.
The Naivety, or Cowardice, of Labour
The UK Housing Secretary has now delayed the decision on this project until October 21, despite already missing the original deadline of September 9. Meanwhile, top Labour officials have allegedly leaned on the Met Police to withdraw their objections. David Lammy and Yvette Cooper are accused of downplaying concerns. Rachel Reeves has been off in Beijing pitching trade deals. And Labour MPs like Peter Kyle? He casually waved the whole thing away with a shrug: “We deal with embassies all the time.”
Let’s be clear… this is not an embassy. It’s an outpost. A base. A bunker. The CCP didn’t spend £255 million on a historic London site to host tea parties and dragon dances. They’re planting a flag. Establishing a hardened node of intelligence-gathering and influence, nestled between the City of London and Whitehall.
And Labour is nodding it through like it’s just another office block in Croydon.
Espionage Wrapped in a Planning Application
Security services have raised red flags. Tower Hamlets Council rejected the application. Local residents objected in droves. Even the White House privately warned Britain not to give China “potential access to the sensitive communications of one of our closest allies.”
But still, Beijing won’t say what’s in the basement.
When asked to “identify precisely and comprehensively” what had been greyed out, China’s consultants simply refused. They argued it wasn’t required, citing planning norms that apply to open-plan office blocks, not subterranean CCP bunkers next to MI5’s front lawn.
Labour’s response? Delay. Dither. Deflect.
This isn’t policy… it’s surrender.
If We Let This Happen, We Are Fools
Let’s not forget who we’re dealing with here. This is the same regime that:
- Harasses and intimidates Hong Kong activists on British soil.
- Operates illegal “police stations” in UK cities.
- Places bounties on British residents critical of Beijing.
- Runs a surveillance state so vast it would make Orwell blush.
Now they want a covert operations hub in the middle of our capital and we’re still considering it? This isn’t diplomacy. This is delusion.
Angela Rayner now faces a simple choice: stand up for Britain’s national security, or roll over and hand the keys to Beijing. If she backs down now, Britain won’t just look weak, we’ll be exposed, infiltrated, and complicit in our own strategic sabotage.
This must not go ahead. No more delays. No more grovelling to bullies in suits. Until we get full transparency, including every greyed-out drawing, every purpose of every room, the answer must be no.
Because if we approve this embassy today, we’ll be picking up the pieces for decades to come. Mark my words.
