Great Britain has another triathlon triumph to celebrate. Georgia Taylor-Brown produced a masterclass in the Czech Republic on Sunday, storming to victory at the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) round in Karlovy Vary — her first Series win in three years and a powerful reminder of the class that has made her one of Britain’s most decorated Olympians.
Racing through treacherous, rain-soaked conditions on one of the circuit’s most demanding courses, Taylor-Brown handled the tricky conditions superbly to claim her first WTCS victory since 2023, on a day when heavy rainfall and slick cobblestones contributed to a spate of crashes and double-digit DNFs across the field.
The 32-year-old was ruthless when it mattered most. Working together with American Taylor Spivey and Austria’s Therese Feuersinger, the trio broke clear on the bike leg, quickly building a commanding lead over the chase group. Then, true to form, it was Taylor-Brown’s trademark run that sealed the deal — she took the initiative from the front on the final leg, leaving Spivey with no answer.
She crossed the line 36 seconds clear of Spivey, completing the 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run in two hours, three minutes and five seconds, with reigning world champion Lisa Tertsch of Germany completing the podium in third.
It’s a result that caps a remarkable return to form for the 2020 world champion and Tokyo 2020 silver medallist. Taylor-Brown has spent much of this season focused on longer distances, having already claimed a T100 title in Spain back in May — but on Sunday, on home turf for the WTCS regulars, she proved she still has the speed and racecraft to dominate at the standard distance when it counts.
For a British triathlon programme with a proud history of producing world-beaters, Taylor-Brown’s Karlovy Vary win is a timely statement of intent as the season heads toward its Grand Final showdown in Pontevedra — and another gold star for Team GB’s unmatched pedigree on the world stage.
Congratulations, Georgia Taylor-Brown — a British champion once again.
