Britain’s Teen Snowboarding Sensation Mia Brookes Strikes Gold in Beijing

Seventeen-year-old Mia Brookes, the rising star of British snowboarding, has taken her first-ever Big Air World Cup gold medal in spectacular fashion in Beijing.

Scoring an impressive 179.75, Brookes outshone a competitive field, cementing her place as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.

Competing in the FIS Snowboard Big Air, the reigning Big Air World Cup Crystal Globe holder showcased her trademark grit and flair. After a solid start with a back double 1260 weddle, Brookes stumbled in her second run, missing the landing on a cab 1440 stalefish. But the snowboarder, already a slopestyle world champion, kept her nerve.

Her third and final run saw her deliver a stunning 94.000-point performance, the highest score of the day. It was enough to clinch the gold and take her to the top of the podium, with Japan’s Mari Fukada trailing in second on 176.75 and Austria’s Olympic champion Anna Gasser finishing third with 69.00.

Speaking to the FIS after her victory, Brookes said:

“I didn’t even plan on coming to win today. I just wanted to land my new tricks, and just to be here is so sick. To win it is insane.”

A Phenomenal Start to the Season

This gold is Brookes’s second podium finish in as many events this season, following a silver in the Winter Games NZ FIS Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup. She also finished fifth in her opening Big Air competition in Switzerland back in October.

The teenager’s Beijing triumph is a statement of intent as she builds momentum toward the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in 2026, where she is tipped as one of Britain’s top medal hopes.
