British cycling hero Tom Pidcock produced another unforgettable performance on Sunday, May 24, as the reigning world champion powered to victory in the Men Elite XCO race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Series round in Nové Město.

The Yorkshire star once again showed why he is one of the finest riders Britain has ever produced, claiming a remarkable fifth win from five appearances at the famous Czech course, a record that underlines his dominance on one of mountain biking’s toughest stages.

Racing in the rainbow bands as world champion, Pidcock attacked early and immediately took control of the race through the fast woodland trails and punishing climbs. France’s Luca Martin mounted a determined challenge during the middle laps, briefly reducing the gap, but the British rider responded every single time with trademark grit and explosive power.

With the crowd roaring him on, Pidcock crossed the finish line 18 seconds clear to secure yet another famous victory for Britain. Switzerland’s Filippo Colombo completed the podium in third.

The win was another huge statement from the Olympic and world champion, who continues to fly the flag for British cycling across the world. Whether on the road, in cyclo-cross or on the mountain bike, Pidcock continues to prove he is one of the most complete cyclists of his generation.

After the race, the Brit admitted the level of competition keeps getting stronger every season, but insisted it motivates him to keep improving.

Pidcock said he perhaps pushed too hard in the opening laps before using his climbing strength to regain control whenever Martin threatened to close in.

The victory also completed a superb weekend for British fans after Pidcock bounced back from second place in Saturday’s short-track race to once again stand proudly on the top step of the podium.

Meanwhile, Austria’s Laura Stigger claimed victory in the women’s Elite XCO race with a dominant ride, finishing almost a minute clear of the chasing pack.

But Sunday belonged to Britain’s champion.

Five races. Five victories. Total domination.

Tom Pidcock remains the king of Nové Město.
