It’s official—Keir Starmer is now trying to pay double to hand over British territory and cede control of a vital military base to a country that is increasingly in China’s orbit.
If that sounds like national self-harm, that’s because it is.
The new Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, has confirmed that Keir Starmer has now offered “complete sovereignty” over Diego Garcia, the critical US-UK military base in the Indian Ocean. And if that weren’t bad enough, the deal also includes a jaw-dropping financial sweetener—Starmer has effectively doubled the £9 billion originally offered to Mauritius to take it off our hands. Money that the British taxpayer will have to cough up.
Broadcaster Alex Phillips hit the nail on the head saying: “Wait. Let me get this straight Starmer now wants to pay Mauritius DOUBLE the money to give it OUR territory AND give up any British or American say over the critical military base of Diego Garcia?! The only plausible reason at this stage is he’s actually working on behalf of China.”
LET’S BE CLEAR: DIEGO GARCIA IS NOT JUST A SPECK IN THE OCEAN.
The Chagos Islands is home to DIEGO GARCIA, one of the most strategically important military bases on Earth. It is a launchpad for operations across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, capable of hosting nuclear-capable bombers and submarines. It is a cornerstone of Western security—one that both Britain and the United States rely on. And yet, Starmer wants to hand it over on a silver platter and pay them British taxpayers money for the privilege.
Meanwhile, in Washington, Trump’s team is alarmed. Senior US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, have raised serious concerns about China’s growing influence in Mauritius. Rubio even called Starmer’s deal “a serious threat to US national security interests.”
THE GREAT BETRAYAL
Last month, Starmer was stopped trying to push through the deal before President Trump took office.
Starmer’s original deal meant Britain would have paid Mauritius £9 billion over 99 years to lease back Diego Garcia. Crucially, Britain would have had the right to extend that lease unilaterally by another 40 years, ensuring a continued British and American presence in the region. However, now Starmer has stripped out key safeguards. Under his new deal:
- Mauritius will have the power to veto any extension of the lease, meaning Britain and America could be evicted in the near future.
- The payments to Mauritius will be front loaded and inflation-linked, doubling the original cost to British taxpayers.
- Starmer is effectively bankrolling a country that is increasingly within China’s sphere of influence.
As Priti Patel, the Shadow Foreign Secretary, has rightly pointed out, this is “an epic failure of diplomacy.” She slammed Starmer for “telling the British people they will foot the bill for the indignity of his surrender of the Chagos Islands.”
And that’s exactly what this is: a surrender.
WHY IS STARMER REALLY DOING THIS?
Could it be that he’s doing China’s bidding? Because the only true beneficiaries of this lunacy are in Beijing. Handing control of Diego Garcia to Mauritius is a strategic gift to China, which has been steadily expanding its influence in the Indian Ocean. The Chinese Communist Party already has a military base in Djibouti—Diego Garcia would be the next big prize.
If Starmer genuinely believes in protecting Britain’s security, he should immediately halt these negotiations. Instead, he presses ahead, weakening Britain, sidelining the US, and emboldening those who wish us harm.
THE GREAT BRITISH PAC FIGHTS BACK
Thankfully, not everyone is asleep at the wheel. Last month, a cross-party letter to Keir Starmer signed by Nigel Farage, Suella Braverman, Liz Truss, and other high-profile UK politicians—organised by the Great British PAC—landed on President Trump’s desk. It was a direct warning that Starmer’s deal threatens British and American interests alike. The Trump team is now on high alert, and make no mistake: they will not take this lightly.
Meanwhile, in Mauritius, Ramgoolam couldn’t be happier. Addressing his parliament, he crowed that the new deal was far more beneficial to Mauritius than the “sellout” deal his predecessor signed. And why wouldn’t he be happy? Britain would be now paying more, while giving away its leverage.
STARMER’S SELL-OUT MUST BE STOPPED
Britain does not owe Mauritius Diego Garcia. It is a British Overseas Territory, and it is of immense strategic importance.
If Starmer pushes through this disastrous deal, we are not just losing territory—we are losing control of the Indo-Pacific balance of power. The Trump administration must intervene before it is too late.
This is about sovereignty, security, and sheer common sense. Starmer’s sell-out must be stopped.
