Ladies and gentlemen, fellow countrymen, and bemused onlookers – the grand crusader against cronyism, Sir Keir Starmer, has been found with his hands in the proverbial biscuit tin.
Yes, the man who has paraded around Westminster, accusing others of cronyism, is now neck-deep in a scandal of his own.
Starmer, it appears, has been the grateful recipient of all sorts of goodies: clothes, glasses, accommodation, even tickets to sports matches and concerts – and here’s the kicker, he failed to declare them.
Now, I know, dear readers, you will be as shocked as I am. After all, Sir Keir pretends to build much of his persona on the virtues of transparency, accountability, and squeaky-clean politics. Yet here we are, learning that the very man who has wagged his finger at others has been secretly enjoying the kind of perks that he would have us believe are beneath him.
We’re not talking about a pair of modest spectacles to see more clearly the problems facing our great nation, oh no! We’re talking about a veritable wardrobe of freebies, tickets to swanky events, and even clothes for his wife – all seemingly omitted from the public register.
And it doesn’t stop there. Angela Rayner, Starmer’s trusty deputy and fellow purveyor of moral superiority, has apparently been receiving free clothes too, according to the indomitable Dame Andrea Jenkyns on Twitter. One rule for them, it seems, and another for the rest of us.

The audacity, the barefaced cheek of it! Starmer, who was quick to point fingers at Boris, accusing him of cronyism and back-scratching, has now been found to have received a series of undeclared gifts. One has to wonder – does the Prime Minister believe he is above the very rules he seeks to impose on others?
This is not a matter of a simple oversight. No, this reeks of hypocrisy of the highest order. Starmer, the man who has made a career out of casting aspersions on others, has been caught red-handed – taking the very sort of goodies he rails against. For a man who prides himself on being the white knight of British politics, this scandal has surely left a few dents in his armour.
So, while Keir Starmer may continue to preach about fairness and integrity, the reality appears somewhat different. The question now is, will he own up to his hypocrisy, or will he, like so many before him, wriggle out of accountability with a well-polished excuse?
Of course it will be the latter. Beers in Durham anyone?
This, my friends, is the problem with the holier-than-thou brigade. They love to lecture us from on high, but when it comes to their own actions, they’re more than happy to enjoy a bit of luxury on the side.
