The Duke of Cornwall paid a visit to Duchy College Stoke Climsland, located in Callington, Cornwall, to witness firsthand how the institution is providing crucial opportunities for young people in rural communities.
As part of his longstanding commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and education, the Duke toured the college, which offers a range of land-based degrees across equine science, agriculture, and horticulture.
Duchy College is a cornerstone for the future of British farming, especially in the Southwest of England, helping the next generation develop the skills needed to tackle rural challenges.
The college is also part of the Stoke Climsland Farm Cluster, a collective of 23 farms, including several owned by the Duchy of Cornwall. These farms are collaborating to implement innovative environmental practices, striving for sustainability and biodiversity, something close to the Duke’s heart.
A highlight of the visit was the Duke’s tour of the college’s Future Farm facility. This cutting-edge initiative aims to revolutionise dairy farming with a focus on improving efficiency, animal welfare, and technological innovation. It stands as a beacon of modern farming practices, ensuring that British agriculture remains at the forefront of global advancements.
The Duke also spent time with students, even joining in on a CSI training exercise conducted by students from the Military & Protective Services Academy, showcasing the diverse range of opportunities available at the college.
