Ukraine’s ex-president Petro Poroshenko has praised the UK’s rapid move to support Ukraine after it was invaded by Russian ‘barbarians’ and says Prime Minister Boris Johnson “demonstrates great leadership of the whole Western world.”
The former president also said Russia has no right to sentence British resistance fighters to death because it has no legal jurisdiction in Ukraine.
In an exclusive interview with GB News, Petro Poroshenko also expressed his thanks for the support of Britons on the ground in Ukraine whilst blasting Russian “barbarians”.
“This is just a strong message, which the whole world should send to Russia: that Russia has zero jurisdiction. This is Ukrainian soil, this is the Ukrainian state.
“This is a Ukrainian people who with weapons in their hands protect their own land and this is an aggressive country with the Russian barbarians who come here to kill Ukrainians.
“On behalf of all Ukrainians as the fifth president of Ukraine, I want to thank all the British people, including those who are now in Ukraine, including those who are voting to support Ukraine, receiving Ukrainian refugees, because this is an extremely great symbol of solidarity.”
“I want to thank the United Kingdom and the United States because your cannon, your Howitzer is already here and your ammunition is helping us Ukrainians to stop Putin, and I want to thank you for helping us to save Europe’s security, including British security.”
Speaking to GB News presenter Tom Harwood, Mr Poroshenko said 100 Ukrainian soldiers are killed and some 500 are wounded every day, while Russia has used 2,600 cruise missiles in the war so far.
He said 80% of the population are in favour of full integration with Nato and the EU and heaped praise on Boris Johnson and the people of Britain for supporting the country from the outset. Mr Poroshenko said:
“I co-operated with Boris Johnson as a minister of foreign affairs, as a foreign secretary, and he demonstrated a unique charisma and unique support of my nation which is already more than 80 years in the war and we really feel the shoulder of the real friend.”
“We think that Boris Johnson demonstrates great leadership of the whole Western world not only of the great British people to make a breakthrough and to facilitate the supply of everything from nutrition to termination, and the lethal weapons from Great Britain played a key role in the first hours of their aggression.
“And we now even have a poem about NLAW anti-tank missiles which are supplied to us by the British people and British government and Boris Johnson.
“We definitely respect the United Kingdom on this whole thing and believe me, we are happy. Boris, congratulations!”
