Here we are again, with Keir Starmer doing what he does best… breaking promises like they’re going out of fashion.
The man who campaigned with lofty promises to scrap university tuition fees has now executed yet another spectacular U-turn, leaving his once-loyal fans, all the left-leaning students across the country, reeling in dismay.
That’s right: university tuition fees are not only staying but are set to rise for the first time in eight years. Come next autumn, students in England will face a hefty £9,535 a year for their education.
Now, let’s rewind a bit, shall we? Remember when Starmer boldly proclaimed that Labour would “end the national scandal of spiralling student debt”? He didn’t just whisper it; he broadcasted it up and down the country. He promised to abolish university fees and free young people from the crushing weight of debt. It was a pledge made to thousands of hopeful students and their families, echoing across campuses nationwide. Yet here we are, with those same students facing yet another financial blow – courtesy of Mr. Starmer’s trusty U-turn playbook.

One minute he’s a crusader against tuition fees, the next, he’s the architect of the very fee hike he once condemned. It’s no wonder people have started calling him “Mr. Flip-Flop.”
But this latest betrayal will come back to haunt Labour. They’ve managed to alienate an entire generation of left-leaning students who were wooed with promises of a new dawn, of freedom from crippling debt. They were told they wouldn’t have to mortgage their future for a degree.
But all that lofty rhetoric has evaporated faster than a puddle on a hot day now that Labour is in power. Starmer has taken their hopes, thrown them under the bus, and then hit reverse for good measure.
Of course, this is far from an isolated incident. Starmer’s political record is littered with broken promises – on energy prices, nationalising utilities, standing up for pensioners, tackling crime, immigration, public transport, Brexit and even the monarchy. He once proclaimed he wanted to abolish the monarchy, yet who could forget him at the Coronation, gushing over King Charles like a teenybopper at a K-Pop concert? He vowed he’d “smash the gangs,” but reality paints a different picture.
As historian David Starkey put it, “Starmer has no morality whatsoever. His entire career is a lie. He lied to the Labour Party, he lied to his MPs, he lied to the nation, and he continues to lie. He finds it difficult to open his mouth without uttering a lie.” And, frankly, it’s hard to disagree.

What we have here is a Labour leadership that promised the earth just to win the General Election. But the moment Starmer reached Number 10, his promises vanished like campaign leaflets in the wind. Any honour student will tell you — this is a man who wouldn’t know honour if it hit him in the face.
Starmer talked of “standing up for the many, not the few,” but when the moment came to stand by his word, he ran for the hills. And who pays the price? It’s young people, the future doctors, engineers, and teachers, who will now face many years of debt because of a leader who can’t seem to stick to a single promise.
This betrayal will haunt Labour, mark my words. The students who once saw Starmer as their champion now see him for what he truly is: just another lefty politician who talks a big game, only to leave them high and dry.
For all his lofty promises, Keir Starmer has proven he’s not a leader of principle… he’s a downright liar. And if he thinks he can treat students like this and still count on their support, he’s about to get schooled.
So, Sir Keir, prepare for some very chilly receptions on campus. Because as every student knows, a U-turn like this won’t get you an A… it won’t even get you a pass.
