Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd has opened the doors of its new Nuclear Skills Academy in Derby this week. 200 new apprentices from all walks of life streamed into the Academy today for what marks the start of their nuclear careers. 10. Levelling Up: 1000 jobs moved from London to Scotland under UK Civil Service shakeup
Almost 1,000 London-based Civil Service jobs have moved to Scotland since March 2020, the Cabinet Office has announced this week. The relocation programme, known as Places for Growth, is moving 22,000 Civil Service jobs out of London by 2030. Already 933 jobs have been relocated from the capital to Scotland since the start of the scheme, with a further 600 high-quality jobs to be permanently based in Scotland by 2025… click here
9. Logistics giant DHL invests £230 million in new UK hub creating over 600 jobs
German logistics giant DHL has announced the start of construction on its new £230 million hub in SEGRO Park Coventry, part of a £482 million investment to facilitate business growth in the UK. The new Coventry facility will double DHL’s handling capacity and is expected to create over 600 new jobs for the area. 8. Nissan opens £10 million battery assembly facility in Sunderland to support electrification programme
Nissan has opened a new £10 million battery pack assembly facility in Sunderland – part of a £500 million investment programme – to support the production of its electrified versions of the Qashqai and Juke models. Both the Nissan Qashqai and Juke are designed, engineered and manufactured by Nissan in its UK facilities, supporting more than 7,000 jobs in Paddington, Maple Cross, Cranfield, Lutterworth and Sunderland, as well as a further 30,000 in the wider UK supply chain… click here

6. BAE Systems wins multi-million dollar contract to build US Army’s cold weather all-terrain vehicles
British manufacturer BAE Systems has won the U.S. Army’s competition for its Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program and the company has received a £268 million contract for production units, spare parts and contractor logistics support. 5. MADE IN UK: British electric vehicle manufacturer produces first production verification van in microfactory
British electric vehicle manufacturer Arrival has this week produced the first production verification vehicle from its Bicester Microfactory. Arrival produced the first vehicle using in-house technologies, including composite materials, autonomous mobile robots, in-house components and a software defined factory… click here
4. UK economy grows by 0.2% and ‘investment intentions continue to be positive’ says ONS
Latest figures from the Office of National Statistics show Britain’s economy grew by 0.2% in the three months to June, reversing the initial estimate of a 0.1% contraction. The upward revision of the second quarter GDP by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) implies the UK is not in recession, as predicted by the Bank of England earlier this month. The ONS said the growth was driven by upwards improvements for the health and financial sectors… click here
3. Over 500 criminals and immigration offenders removed from UK in September
Foreign criminals removed in September had received combined prison sentences of more than 337 years. In total, 533 people were returned, including 105 to Albania on three dedicated charter flights and scheduled flights this month. The Home Office also returned 26 Romanian nationals and nine individuals to Zimbabwe on separate charter flights. To date this year, the UK has removed 8,175 people via enforced, voluntary and other return types, including 2,250 foreign national offenders… click here
2. Jacob Rees-Mogg announces £1.5 billion to improve energy efficiency and slash bills
Around 130,000 low-income households across England could see bills slashed by around £400 to £700 a year as their homes receive energy efficiency upgrades through the government’s latest Help to Heat funding. Up to £1.5 billion is being made available through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund and Home Upgrade Grant schemes, allowing social housing providers and local authorities to submit bids for funding to upgrade the properties… click here
1. Huge lithium factory confirmed for UK reducing our reliance on China
Teesside will be home to the UK’s first lithium factory, reducing our reliance on China. The refinery will have the capacity to produce 50,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium a year – enough to manufacture one million electric vehicles annually. Engineering services company Worley will work with Green Lithium to deliver the refinery that will exceed six per cent of the whole of Europe’s anticipated battery demand by 2030… click here
