GREAT BRITISH NEWS: Top positive news stories from across the UK this week

Sometimes on a Sunday night, I’m not entirely sure whether to keep doing this. After all, finding genuine good news under this Labour government feels a bit like trying to plant roses in concrete… painfully hard work.

There have been times I’ve nearly stopped altogether. Yet every week, something pulls me back. Because even in the darkest political climate, the spirit of Britain refuses to be dimmed. We must keep celebrating the wins, however few and far between they may seem. They matter. They remind us who we are, a nation that endures, creates, and triumphs no matter who sits in Downing Street.

So once again, here at the Conservative Post, we’ve sought out the stories that prove Britain remains a force to be reckoned with. While Labour dithers, taxes, and apologises its way around the world stage, real Britons are getting on with the job… building, inventing, discovering, and inspiring. Stay strong. This awful period won’t last forever. The greatness of Britain didn’t begin with Labour, and it certainly won’t end with them.

This week brought fresh reasons for pride. In a major victory for freedom, fairness, and parental choice, Christian schools have won permission to appeal the government’s punitive VAT policy in a landmark legal challenge. It’s a fight not just about taxation, but about principle, about standing up for those who build and nurture independent education, refusing to bow to state overreach. It’s proof that even when the government tries to smother enterprise and independence, British resolve pushes back.

On the pitch, England’s Three Lions gave the nation something to roar about, storming their way to qualification for the 2026 World Cup. In a world that feels divided and uncertain, sport once again reminded us of the power of unity, pride, and sheer determination. These are the moments that lift a nation, the kind that Labour can’t legislate, but Britain will always produce.

Meanwhile, in science and industry, Britain’s innovators continue to make history. UK scientists celebrated a breakthrough in nuclear fusion technology, a development that could one day power the planet cleanly and efficiently, revolutionising energy for generations to come. It’s a triumph of intellect and persistence, the kind of discovery that keeps Britain at the cutting edge of global progress. While Labour obsesses over committees and slogans, our scientists are literally changing the world.

That same grit and vision were on display in Northern Ireland, where Wrightbus hailed soaring revenues and record-breaking efficiency, fuelled by demand for its pioneering zero-emission buses. From a company once on the brink to a symbol of British resilience, Wrightbus embodies everything we should be proud of… hard work, innovation, and the belief that British engineering still leads the way.

And in Sheffield, the spirit of craftsmanship burns brighter than ever. Sheffield Forgemasters opened a state-of-the-art training facility this week, ensuring that future generations of skilled British workers will continue to build, forge, and innovate right here at home. In an age of uncertainty, this kind of investment in people, purpose, and place is exactly what keeps Britain strong.

So yes, Labour may be a disaster. Yes, their policies are driving businesses abroad and sapping confidence at home. But every week we see proof that Britain’s greatness isn’t dictated by the government, it’s driven by the people. Our scientists, engineers, teachers, soldiers, artists, and entrepreneurs are still doing what we do best: succeeding in spite of everything.

That’s why we’ll keep doing this. Week after week. Because Britain still deserves to hear the good news. Stay proud, stay strong, and remember, this country has weathered worse storms than Labour. The clouds will clear, the sun will shine again, and when it does, it’ll shine on a nation that never stopped believing in itself.
