British engineering excellence has once again triumphed on the world stage, as JCB has won a landmark $45 million contract to supply its world-renowned 4CX Backhoe Loaders to the United States Marine Corps (USMC).

Following an extensive evaluation, the Marines selected JCB’s iconic machines for delivery over the next five years, cementing the Staffordshire-based company’s reputation as a global leader in military and construction engineering.

The deal includes not only the supply of the backhoe loaders, but also hands-on operator training and attachments, ensuring America’s finest are equipped with the very best of British manufacturing.

The contract marks the second major agreement between JCB and the USMC in as many years, following a $39 million order in 2024 for militarised versions of the JCB Teleskid Multi Terrain Loaders.

Richard Fox-Marrs, President and CEO of JCB North America, said:

“We’re proud that, after an extensive evaluation, the Marine Corps has once again selected JCB. As the world’s leading Backhoe Loader manufacturer, we value this continued partnership and the confidence placed in our ability to deliver machines that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.”

Chris Giorgianni, Vice President of Government and Defense for JCB North America, highlighted the depth of innovation behind the machines:

“The 4CX is the direct result of more than 70 years of continuous improvement. It’s built to perform in the most demanding of environments, whether that’s military engineering missions or high-pressure construction jobsites. This contract builds on JCB’s proven track record of supplying versatile, rugged and dependable equipment to military forces around the world.”

A Triumph of British Engineering

The JCB 4CX Backhoe Loader at the heart of the contract is a showcase of British ingenuity and resilience. Unlike centremount machines favoured in North America, JCB’s side-shift backhoe with Powerslide system expands the digging envelope by 10% and enables operators to work with pinpoint precision in confined spaces or alongside obstacles without constant repositioning. It is a piece of kit uniquely designed to meet the challenges of modern warfare and complex engineering tasks alike.

This is not just a contract. It is a declaration of confidence in British manufacturing, a ringing endorsement of JCB’s innovation, and a testament to the vision of its chairman, Lord Bamford, whose lifelong mission has been to make Britain the undisputed leader in engineering excellence.

Lord Bamford: A National Champion

For decades, Lord Bamford has been the driving force behind JCB’s success. Under his stewardship, JCB has grown from a family firm into a world-beating titan of industry, proudly flying the flag for Britain in every corner of the globe. His relentless commitment to innovation, quality and patriotism has ensured that when the world’s most elite forces, such as the United States Marines, need machinery they can trust, they turn to a company founded and rooted in Britain.

This latest USMC contract proves that British industry is still the gold standard. It is not only a commercial victory but a patriotic triumph, a reminder that in a competitive world, Britain can and does lead.

As Lord Bamford has often said, JCB is more than just a manufacturer: it is a symbol of what British engineering can achieve. This $45 million contract with the US Marines is the latest proud chapter in that story.
