OUTRAGE AS BRITAIN FORCED TO STAMP ‘NOT FOR EU’ LABELS ON ITS OWN GOODS – EVEN WHEN SOLD IN BRITAIN

Tomorrow evening, MPs will be asked to vote on explosive new rules that critics say surrender yet more British sovereignty to Brussels.

The Government wants powers to force British firms to slap “Not for EU” labels on products sold entirely within Great Britain.

Why? Because from July 1, an EU law made after Brexit, Regulation 1231, kicks in. It will force GB companies selling goods in Northern Ireland to use these warning labels.

And to avoid Northern Ireland being “cut off” by British businesses unwilling to repackage just for NI, the Government now wants to expand the labelling nationwide.

That means your food, clothes, or toiletries, even if only ever sold in England, Scotland, or Wales, could soon come stamped with a label dictated by Brussels.

‘EU RULES WRITTEN TWO YEARS AFTER BREXIT’

Last Monday, MP Jim Allister raised the alarm during a committee debate, warning that the Marking of Retail Goods Regulations 2025 would cement Britain’s submission to EU sovereignty.

He pointed out that the EU regulation at the heart of the crisis – Regulation 1231 – was passed two and a half years after the UK left the EU. It applies only to the UK, and to no EU member state.

“A much greater range of products will be brought into scope of labelling requirements in July 2025… The government requires a means of intervention… by providing a credible threat of enforcement.”

— UK Government, Explanatory Memorandum, June 2025

That’s right, the Government admits, in black and white, that it needs the power to force companies to label goods even when they’re only being sold in Britain.

Allister and others have slammed this as a command economy tactic, not a policy of a supposedly free and sovereign nation.

‘SUPPLY CHAINS IN NORTHERN IRELAND AT RISK’

The Government itself warns the EU’s rule could trigger a collapse in supply chains to Northern Ireland. The fear? GB businesses may stop selling to NI altogether rather than swallow the extra costs of packaging and compliance.

To avoid this, ministers are preparing to enforce labelling across the whole of Britain — an extraordinary step designed to remove any commercial ‘disincentive’ for firms serving Northern Ireland.

Critics say it’s madness: Britain bending to EU law just to keep part of the UK supplied. And there’s more.

‘FUNCTIONALLY USELESS’ AND IGNORED AT THE BORDER

Even now, with limited labelling rules in place, goods marked “Not for EU” still cross the Irish border freely, thanks to thousands of shoppers from the Republic heading north for deals.

In other words, the whole system doesn’t work… and never did.

So, the big question: who exactly are we doing this for?

A CONSTITUTIONAL BETRAYAL?

For Jim Allister and many others, the whole situation is a direct result of the failure to deliver full Brexit for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Had we truly left as one nation, the EU would have no authority to dictate how goods move within the UK.

Instead, the Government now wants to expand EU-enforced labelling to British shelves, effectively giving in rather than standing up to Brussels.

Allister put it plainly:

“No part of the UK should have to place ‘Not for EU’ labels on goods sold within it.”

NOW IS THE TIME TO STAND UP

This isn’t just red tape. It’s about who governs Britain.

Rather than cave to the EU and impose their rules across our own country, it’s time to defend the integrity of the United Kingdom, critics say.

“We must rise up and require that the EU recognises the territorial integrity of the whole UK, renouncing any right to make laws for any part of the UK which inevitably impact laws made in the rest of the country, as demonstrated by the Marking of Retail Goods Regulations 2025.”

The vote is tomorrow evening (Monday 30th June 2025) in Parliament.

If you believe in Brexit, in national sovereignty, and in standing up for Northern Ireland — now’s the time to act.
