A new poll conducted by the Conservative Democratic Organisation (CDO) shows Susan Hall is the Tory grassroots preferred Conservative candidate for the London Mayoral Race 2024.
The final three conservatives in the London Mayoral Race include London Assembly member Susan Hall, tech entrepreneur and former government advisor Daniel Korski and Tory Barrister Mozammel Hossain KC.
In the CDO poll that ran from 14th to 17th June, members were asked for their preferred Conservative Candidate for London Mayor in 2024 to take on Labour’s Sadiq Khan in next May’s election.
Of the 962 members who responded, 68% voted for Susan Hall. Daniel Korski came in second with 20.5% of the vote and KC Mozammel Hossain received a 14.7% share.
Susan Hall received 624 votes, Daniel Korski received 197 and Mozammel Hossain KC received 141.
On being told she came out on top, Susan Hall told the Conservative Post:
“I am so grateful to everyone for their support. We have got to get Sadiq Khan out, so that we can sort out the Met Police, build a lot more homes in the right places and stop the ULEZ expansion on day one. I am the only candidate that can beat him and make London a safer, happier and cleaner city.”
As part of Susan Hall’s pledges, she has promised to halt the ULEZ expansion on day one if she is elected London mayor before turning her attention to “hunting down and locking up” petty criminals.
According to her team, Ms Hall also currently comes top with 57 political endorsements having almost double Daniel Korski’s 29 and Moz Hossain’s 3. Susan’s team say she is “the only candidate who has won elections, who has worked in elected office, and who has experience battling Sadiq Khan on the London Assembly.”
As the former leader of the Conservative Group in the London Assembly, Ms Hall has also announced she would invest £200 million in the Met Police to sort out crime, funded by savings at City Hall and TfL – including scrapping nominee passes. She has also made a Delivery Guarantee promising that all of her commitments are:
- Costed and affordable
- Within the Mayor’s powers
- Realistic and achievable
Ms Hall is calling on the other candidates to adopt this pledge, and retract any policies that are based on powers that the Mayor does not have or that are unfunded.
Hot on Susan’s heels is Daniel Korski, a tech entrepreneur and former government advisor to David Cameron.
Supporters say Korski’s campaign stands out as a frontrunner in the London mayoral race, garnering the highest number of MP endorsements among all declared candidates. Distinguished figures such as Cabinet Minister Michael Gove have expressed his support for Korski, emphasising the transformative impact he can bring to the city. Gove stated:
“If you offer support to Daniel, you are helping to shape this race in the right way. Your support will help us transform and enhance the potential of this great city. You couldn’t wish for a better person to galvanise and to light up this race than Dan Korski. We need a wholly different approach to City Hall.”
As a tech entrepreneur and founder of PUBLIC, a company specialising in digital innovation, Korski says he is dedicated to harnessing technology for the betterment of London. His campaign is centred around utilising technology to streamline access to public services for Londoners.
Korski says he also plans to establish a London Digital Corps, comprised of skilled coders and engineers, with the aim of improving accessibility and reducing costs for taxpayers. Furthermore, he says his comprehensive plans encompass increasing police numbers, implementing a minor crimes unit within the Metropolitan Police for community-centric policing, protecting London’s environment through smart transport tech, and addressing the housing crisis by building on disused TfL land in central London without burdening outer London boroughs.
Daniel Korski, Mayoral Candidate:
“London should be the city where dreams can come true. A city where vision, passion, and hard work are rewarded, regardless of your background. But after years of neglect, we have faltered. It’s time to turn The London Dream into a tangible reality. We need a fresh approach that embraces new ideas, new technologies, and a positive, entrepreneurial spirit.”
Finally, the third contender is Conservative Barrister Mozammel Hossain KC who recently revealed he is a “passionate Remainer” at the first mayoral hustings earlier this month.
In the 2016 referendum, London voted by 60 per cent to 40 per cent to stay in the EU. Although Conservative members in the capital are believed to be more skewed towards Leave than that, Hossain told party activists at the Conservative’s first mayoral hustings that he was “not a Brexiteer.”
A criminal defence barrister who grew up in Bangladesh and did not own a pair of shoes until he was 16, Mr Hossain is regarded as the wild card in the London Mayoral race, securing a place on the shortlist with little advance publicity.
At the hustings Mr Hossain said:
“Look, I’m a passionate Remainer, OK. I’m not a Brexiteer. But we can’t debate that anymore.
“There are opportunities we can create. How can we do that? Deregulate. Not crazy but in a sort of sensible way, so that’s what you can do, that’s what you can do to attract big businesses.”
He continued saying big businesses mainly wanted to be “left alone” and he would focus on City Hall’s three main areas of power – “policing, housing and transport” – to make the capital a good place to live and work. He said:
“If you fix those three things, everything else will fall into place.”
A series of hustings will now take place, after which Conservative party members will vote for their preferred candidate. The successful applicant will be announced on 19 July, allowing them ten months to campaign before the election next May.
