Prince William made a poignant visit to the Saatchi Gallery on Friday to view Homelessness: Reframed, an eye-opening exhibition that delves into the realities of homelessness in the UK and beyond.
The exhibition, a collaboration between Homewards, the Saatchi Gallery, and the Eleven Eleven Foundation, showcases striking works from artists across the globe. Its aim? To highlight the untold stories of homelessness and challenge the way society views those living without a home.
During his visit, the Prince of Wales met with several of the artists behind the exhibition’s newly commissioned pieces, as well as individuals with lived experience of homelessness who have inspired much of the artwork on display.
The exhibition is divided into three sections, each designed to provoke thought and challenge stereotypes. Invisible Wordsdisplays a heart-wrenching collection of signs used by homeless individuals worldwide, bringing attention to the often-overlooked messages carried on scraps of cardboard.
Reframed presents newly commissioned works, where artists reflect on their personal experiences of homelessness or those of others, offering a raw insight into the human condition behind the headlines.
The final section, Open Doors, features artwork created by children and young people from the six Homewards project locations across the UK – from Aberdeen to Sheffield. These symbolic doors, created with the help of local artists who have experienced homelessness, represent the many routes to overcoming housing insecurity.
Launched by Prince William in June 2023 through The Royal Foundation, the Homewards programme is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reshaping the way homelessness is perceived. The project hopes to challenge the negative stereotypes often associated with homelessness and pave the way for more compassionate and effective solutions.
