The Royal Air Force has stepped in to deliver crucial food and medical supplies to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in Beirut, providing much-needed aid amid rising tensions in the region.
The mission saw more than 12,500 ration packs and 79 battlefield medical kits transported by RAF personnel, reinforcing the UK’s long-standing commitment to supporting Lebanon’s stability.
The LAF, as the only legitimate military force in Lebanon, plays a vital role in maintaining security and stability across the country and its borders. This latest delivery, funded by the UK’s Integrated Security Fund, is aimed at bolstering the capabilities of the LAF as it grapples with increasing challenges, including rising displacement and civilian casualties linked to the ongoing unrest in the Middle East.
For over a decade, the UK has been a steadfast ally of the Lebanese Armed Forces, providing critical training, equipment, and mentorship. Since 2009, the UK has invested over £106 million in Lebanon’s security infrastructure, training more than 34,000 LAF personnel and constructing nearly 80 border observation posts and forward operating bases along Lebanon’s borders.

As the situation in the region intensifies, the UK have called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza to allow a pathway for peace. Meanwhile, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) is urging British nationals to leave Lebanon, with charter flights arranged to support evacuations.
In October 2024, the UK government ramped up its humanitarian aid to Lebanon with an additional £10 million in response to the escalating crisis. This builds on a previous £5 million package, delivered through UNICEF, to provide clean water, health services, and nutrition supplies. The government has also pledged to match public donations to the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal, up to £10 million.
This latest mission underscores the UK’s commitment to peace in the Middle East, having been the first G7 nation to call for de-escalation in the region. Government sources reaffirm that a ceasefire is essential to allow civilians on both sides to safely return to their homes.
