The United Kingdom has extended a grand and ceremonial welcome to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, as they began a State Visit marked by tradition, diplomacy, and shared respect.

On Wednesday morning in Windsor, the Prince and Princess of Wales greeted the visiting dignitaries on behalf of The King. Their Royal Highnesses then accompanied the President and First Lady to Datchet Road, where a formal Ceremonial Welcome took place with full royal honours.

At the Royal Dais, The King and Queen warmly received the Nigerian leaders. A Royal Salute rang out across Home Park in Windsor and the Tower of London, signalling the significance of the occasion. The Sovereign’s Escort paid tribute, and the Nigerian National Anthem was performed, underscoring the strong ties between the two nations.

A stately carriage procession followed, carrying The King and Queen, alongside the President and First Lady, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, through Windsor to the historic grounds of Windsor Castle.

Inside the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, the procession was met by a Guard of Honour formed by the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, accompanied by the Corps of Drums and the Regimental Band. The Guard delivered a Royal Salute as both the Nigerian and British National Anthems were played in a powerful moment of unity.

The President, alongside The King, inspected the Guard of Honour before rejoining The Queen and the First Lady on the dais. Together with the Prince and Princess of Wales, they watched a series of ceremonial displays, including the march past by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, the Sovereign’s Escort, and the Guard of Honour.

In the afternoon, the visit continued with a cultural highlight as The King and Queen hosted the President and First Lady in the Green Drawing Room. There, they viewed a special exhibition from the Royal Collection featuring items connected to Nigeria, celebrating shared heritage and history.

Later, The King received President Tinubu for a private audience at Windsor Castle. The two leaders then travelled to Vicars’ Hall, joined by the First Lady, where they met organisations engaged in interfaith dialogue across the UK and internationally, reflecting a shared commitment to cooperation and understanding.

In a solemn and respectful moment, the President and First Lady visited St George’s Chapel, where they laid a wreath at the Tomb of Queen Elizabeth II, paying tribute to the late monarch.

The day concluded with a magnificent State Banquet at Windsor Castle. Hosted by His Majesty The King, and attended by The Queen and Members of the Royal Family, the evening celebrated the enduring relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Both The King and President Tinubu delivered speeches, marking the occasion with messages of partnership, friendship, and a shared future.
