Donald Trump has made an emotional entrance at the Republican National Convention, marking his first public appearance since the shocking assassination attempt.

The former US president, with a bandage over his right ear, appeared resolute as he entered the Milwaukee conference centre on Monday.

Despite Saturday’s harrowing shooting at a Pennsylvania rally, Trump waved to a packed arena and received a hero’s welcome from the vast crowd gathered to see him at the Republican National Convention.

Attendees erupted in cheers as Trump walked the floor and waved to the room, with Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” resonating throughout the hall.

The emotional moment continued as Trump greeted his family before taking his seat between commentator Tucker Carlson and his new running mate, JD Vance. Donald Trump Jr was visibly moved as his father entered the room.

Earlier in the day, delegates enthusiastically nominated Trump for the 2024 election, marking his third presidential bid. Trump announced his running mate, Republican Ohio Sen. JD Vance, on Truth Social. The former president commending Vance for his commitment to the Constitution and the military.

JD Vance said he was “overwhelmed with gratitude” to be chosen as former President Trump’s running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

“What an honor it is to run alongside President Donald J. Trump. He delivered peace and prosperity once, and with your help, he’ll do it again,” Vance wrote on X a few hours after the first night of the Republican National Convention wrapped up.

“Onward to victory!” he continued.

The convention, held just two days after the attempt on Trump’s life, was marked by heightened security measures.

  1. A true hero and patriot, a man who loves his country and is a champion for the average working joe. If only this country had politicians of the caliber and moral fiber of this man, we would not be in the mess we are today with the Bolsheviks in government. As for Farage, that man is only fit to shine President Donald John Trump’s shoes.
