The Changing of the Guard is a ceremonial event performed in a tradition that reaches back to Henry III, serving as a display of national pride and tradition.
The participation of military bands from other countries in the Changing Of The Guard is rare. Ukraine’s inclusion highlights the strength of the bonds that have come to unite the United Kingdom with Ukraine.
This historic event formed part of celebrations to mark Ukraine’s 34th year of Independence, something which in recent times has come under threat.
In the midst of ongoing war, the day has gained even more significance to the Ukrainian people as a symbol of their resilience and unity as well as the fight to preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and freedom.

The UK has stood firmly by Ukraine’s side since Russia’s illegal and unprovoked full-scale invasion in 2022.
The UK remains fully committed to securing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and are engaging with key allies in support of this effort, which is why £4.5bn is being spent on military support to Ukraine this year, the largest amount provided to date.
In March, the UK announced a historic £1.6 billion deal to provide more than five thousand air defence missiles for Ukraine – creating 200 new jobs and supporting a further 700. The UK will also invest a record £350m this year to increase the supply of drones to Ukraine from a target of 10,000 in 2024 to 100,000 in 2025.
