Renowned for representing Britain across the globe, soldiers of the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (1 PWRR) have once again taken centre stage, this time at Exercise BRIGHT STAR 25, the Middle East’s premier multinational military exercise.
At Mohamed Naguib Military Base, the Tigers of 1 PWRR showcased their skill in border security operations and Close Quarters Battle (CQB), training shoulder to shoulder with Egyptian soldiers and military police.
The exercise demonstrated not only the Regiment’s operational excellence but also Britain’s enduring role as a trusted partner in global security.
Exercise BRIGHT STAR 25, directed by U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) and hosted by Egypt, brings together the UK, the United States, Egypt, and allied nations for a combination of command-post training, live field manoeuvres and senior leader discussions. Its aim is to strengthen cooperation, deter modern threats and reinforce stability across the region.
For the British contingent, participation goes beyond training. It is a visible commitment to defence diplomacy, leadership, and the projection of British military professionalism abroad. The Tigers’ reputation for discipline and fighting spirit ensured they stood out amongst their peers.
A Commanding Officer of 1 PWRR, praised his soldiers’ contribution:
“Our participation in BRIGHT STAR underlines the UK’s determination to uphold international security and strengthen our partnerships. The men and women of 1 PWRR have proven once again that British soldiers are the best in the world, capable of operating in complex environments and working seamlessly with allies.”
Since its inception in 1980, Exercise BRIGHT STAR has grown into a cornerstone of multinational cooperation. The UK’s involvement reflects the country’s historic and continuing influence in maintaining peace and stability, particularly in regions of strategic importance.
By honing tactics such as CQB and urban security operations alongside Egyptian counterparts, British soldiers are not only refining their own capabilities but also sharing hard-earned expertise with partner forces. This collaboration cements Britain’s reputation as a leader in training, readiness, and operational effectiveness.
As the exercise continues, the professionalism of 1 PWRR stands as a powerful reminder that the United Kingdom remains at the forefront of multinational defence efforts — proud, capable, and ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
