The Queen’s Green Canopy has now seen over one million trees planted as the celebration for the Platinum Jubilee continues.
The unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 has been inviting people from across the UK to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.”
Everyone from Prince Charles and Prime Minister Boris Johnson to Scout and Girl guiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools, councils and businesses have been playing their part to enhance the nation by planting trees during the official planting season (October to March).
Tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.
With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC has been encouraging planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.
As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy has dedicated a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identified 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.
As planting season came to an end, The Queen issued a message of thanks to all those who have rooted a tree for her special celebrations. The Queen said:
”As the planting season draws to a close, I send my sincere thanks to everyone across the country who has planted a tree to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee. I am deeply touched that so many community groups, schools, families and individuals have made their own unique contributions to the Green Canopy initiative.
I hope your Jubilee trees flourish and grow for many years to come, for future generations to enjoy.”
Among those rooting a tree on the final day of the season was the Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The Prime Minister was joined by children from Sholing Junior School in Southampton to plant in the gardens of 10 Downing Street.
