A group of distinguished international visitors descended upon the Royal Navy’s pride, HMS Prince of Wales, this week to witness its state-of-the-art flight deck operations firsthand.
Among the high-profile guests were ambassadors from Norway, France, and Iceland, as well as senior civil servants and military personnel, all eager to learn about the UK’s formidable Carrier Strike capabilities.
Arriving in style via the Royal Navy’s Mark 4 Merlin helicopters, the delegation embarked on a full-day tour of the £3 billion aircraft carrier, getting up close with the vessel’s impressive firepower and cutting-edge technology. The visit offered them a chance to meet the dedicated crew and explore the ship’s vast range of capabilities, all while learning about the essential role the UK Carrier Strike Group (CSG) plays in defending national and allied interests.

In an extraordinary display, the guests were treated to two thrilling F-35B Lightning jet take-offs and landings, demonstrating the ship’s capability to support complex air operations. The tour provided an in-depth look into the Strike Warrior exercise, a crucial component of the UK’s military strategy this year.
The UK Carrier Strike Group is at the helm of Exercise Strike Warrior, a large-scale naval exercise that brings together warships, support vessels, and aircraft from six NATO nations. The aim is to hone the skills required to defend the fleet from air, surface, and sub-surface threats.
HMS Prince of Wales, along with 809 Naval Air Squadron and its F-35B jets, is pushing boundaries in military readiness. For 809 NAS, which was formally established only last year, this exercise marks several firsts, from launching aircraft from the carrier to conducting live munitions drops at Cape Wrath.
As the exercise draws to a close, it will validate the Carrier Strike Group’s ability to respond at a moment’s notice, cementing HMS Prince of Wales as a crucial player in safeguarding the UK and its allies. Next year’s deployment will see this powerful fleet, along with its international partners, ready to undertake a wide range of operations across the globe.
