GREAT BRITISH NEWS: Top positive news stories from across the UK this week

While Clowning Street continues to trip over its own shoelaces, the quiet, determined brilliance of Britain marches on.

From the decks of our mighty warships to the labs of our innovators, from Parliament’s bold voices on the right to the boundless realm of space — this week has shown once again that the greatness of Britain endures, no matter who occupies Number 10.

Let’s begin where courage meets common sense: Rupert Lowe MP has tabled an early day motion calling for the mass deportation of illegal migrants, bringing long-overdue accountability and backbone to the debate on border control. After years of empty promises and evasive policies, this offers hope — and the public is listening. It’s not controversial to want borders; it’s common sense. And now it’s finally back on the table.

Elsewhere in Westminster, Robert Jenrick has scored a major victory for transparency by forcing the Labour government to publish migrant crime league tables for the first time. It’s a move that will shake up the culture of silence that has plagued the debate for years. Facts don’t care for ideology — and this new level of disclosure will put truth back where it belongs: in the public square.

And while the mainstream media continues its slow, sulky decline, a Great Media Realignment is underway. As the country tunes out the doom merchants of the old guard, new voices like Dan Wootton, Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson are capturing the nation’s ear. They speak plainly. They question boldly. And for that, they are trusted. No wonder the MSM is terrified.

Away from the headlines, innovation and efficiency are rising in force. The launch of DOGE UK (Department of Government Efficiency UK) is a new watchdog outfit set up to audit waste and expose woke excess — building on the much-followed Woke Waste project. Its mission is simple: protect the taxpayer and drag sunlight into the murky corners of public spending. Accountability is back in fashion.

On the global stage, Britain has made a powerful move with the HMS Prince of Wales embarking on a historic Indo-Pacific mission, flying the flag for freedom and forging strong defence alliances. This is a serious deployment, not just a symbolic gesture. Britain isn’t retreating — it’s stepping forward, with presence, purpose and pride.

Meanwhile, the Conservative Party has pledged to abolish the quietly sinister concept of “non-crime hate incidents”, a bureaucratic tool used to intimidate citizens for saying things the state doesn’t like. In a free country, wrongthink should never be a police matter. That message is now loud and clear. Well done Tories.

And while our institutions strengthen, so does our ingenuity. In a breakthrough for public health, skin cancer patients in England will now get fast-tracked access to a revolutionary vaccine trial on the NHS. This isn’t just a British medical success story — it’s hope delivered straight into the hands of those who need it most.

Over in Northern Ireland, Wrightbus continues to fly the flag for British manufacturing, securing a major new electric vehicle contract and proving that when given the chance, British industry can compete — and win — on the world stage.

And in a truly out-of-this-world achievement, a British-built satellite has blasted off into orbit to scan the world’s forests in 3D — a pioneering environmental mission that marries tech with nature, and shows just how high British ambition still flies.

So, while Labour busies itself with internal squabbles and awkward U-turns, the real Britain — industrious, inventive, and proudly independent — is charging ahead.

The headlines may be gloomy. But behind them, Britain thrives. Because when it comes down to it, we are still the country of courage, clarity, and quiet determination.

And long may that continue.

Here are the best-read and most shared positive stories from this week (21 – 27 April 2025), proving once again that no matter who is in government, the greatness of Britain endures.
