GREAT BRITISH NEWS: Top positive news stories from across the UK this week

Finding good news under this Labour government is like trying to find a perfectly paved road in pothole season—it requires patience, determination, and a strong stomach.

But once again, here at the Conservative and Reformer Post, we’ve sifted through the bureaucratic noise, dodged the doom-mongering headlines, and unearthed the stories that show the UK is still very much alive and unapologetically brilliant (no thanks to Labour of course!).

While Keir Starmer’s Government continues to dither in confusion and play ideological games behind closed doors, the British people, and indeed, many of our institutions, are pushing forward with quiet courage and enduring pride. This week alone has offered us a fresh crop of stories that showcase just how remarkable this country truly is, even when its leadership seems more preoccupied with optics than outcomes.

First and foremost, one of the week’s most significant victories came in the form of a cross-party alliance standing firm against secretive plans to remove the Elgin Marbles from the British Museum. In a rare show of political common sense, politicians and influential people from across the spectrum united to oppose this cultural vandalism. Their message was simple: British history is not up for negotiation. Amid Labour’s silence on the matter, this stand offered a refreshing reminder that our national heritage still matters, and that there are those in public life willing to defend it.

In another victory for public pressure and legal reason, Angela Rayner quietly backed away from Labour’s controversial attempt to redefine Islamophobia… for now. After legal threats and widespread backlash, common sense prevailed and has bought a bit of time. It was a telling moment, not just of Labour’s increasingly fraught relationship with free speech, but also of the public’s power to push back against ideological overreach. People power! Well done Free Speech Union, Conservative MP Nick Timothy and the Great British PAC.

Meanwhile, Britain’s enduring military strength was proudly on display throughout the week. Over 1,000 Armed Forces personnel welcomed the President of France during his state visit, reaffirming the importance of Anglo-French defence cooperation in an increasingly uncertain world. The warm welcome was more than ceremonial, it was strategic, signalling Britain’s enduring leadership in European security even as Labour’s foreign policy team fumbles for coherence.

That message of strength was echoed at RAF Waddington, where a new Protector Training Centre officially opened, solidifying the UK’s future in next-gen surveillance and defence. And further south in Devonport, HMS Astute, the jewel of the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet, began a significant mid-life overhaul to ensure our stealth capabilities remain unmatched in the years ahead. These aren’t headlines Labour likes to shout about, but they are clear evidence that the spirit of British defence innovation continues, undeterred.

On the sporting front, Britain found glory on land, sea, and court. In a stunning moment at Wimbledon, a British duo were crowned men’s doubles champions, an historic victory that electrified Centre Court and reminded the world that we don’t just host the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament, we win it too. Out on the water, windsurfing stars Emma Wilson and Andy Brown secured world championship titles, delivering a double blow of brilliance for Team GB. Their victories were joined by news of a record-breaking youth squad announced for the upcoming Skopje 2025 Olympic Festival, proving once again that British sport has an enviable pipeline of talent, energy, and drive.

Elsewhere, our forces once again demonstrated their mettle under pressure. The RAF carried out a successful emergency evacuation of over 220 British nationals from Israel to Cyprus amid escalating regional conflict. In a time when responsiveness and professionalism can mean the difference between life and death, the RAF reminded us all why they are among the best in the world. And in a display of camaraderie and shared excellence, French paratroopers were awarded British parachute wings after successfully completing training with our elite forces, a mark of mutual respect that few militaries can earn.

So yes, while the Labour government continues to flounder in the realm of ideas and accountability, the British people and institutions carry on. They innovate, protect, lead and achieve. These are the stories that should dominate the front pages. Stories of strength, of heritage defended, of champions crowned and alliances forged. They remind us, week after week, that no matter the government, the greatness of Britain endures. And in times like these, that is something to celebrate.
