Team Great Britain lit up the international stage with a dazzling display of horsemanship to win the prestigious BMO Nations’ Cup at the Spruce Meadows Masters in Calgary on Saturday.

Riding with courage, precision and unity, the British riders delivered a performance worthy of champions and sent the Union Flag flying high in one of the sport’s most iconic arenas.

Matt Sampson (Ebolensky), Ben Maher (Enjeu de Grisien), Joseph Stockdale (Ebanking), and Donald Whitaker (Millfield Colette) formed an imperious quartet under chef d’équipe Di Lampard, finishing with a total of zero faults across two rounds. Three riders produced immaculate double-clear rounds, underlining Britain’s dominance against the world’s elite.

Brilliant Riding, United Purpose

“This is what we came here to do,” said Di Lampard. “The whole team was magnificent… they were clinical, they were brave, and they rode for each other and for Great Britain.”

Olympic champion Ben Maher added: “It’s an amazing feeling to win here on such a stage, in front of this incredible crowd. To do it with this team, in this arena, is very, very special.”

Joseph Stockdale said: “This is my first time jumping here, and it’s been incredible. To win for Great Britain in such a legendary competition is a dream come true.”

Donald Whitaker reflected: “I’m proud to be part of this team. It was a big day for all of us, and the horses jumped their hearts out.”

Matt Sampson, who set the tone early, summed up the spirit of the team: “We knew we had a chance, but to pull it off like this is unbelievable. This win is for Britain.”

A Day of National Pride

On “British Day” at Spruce Meadows, with Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh in attendance, the team’s triumph carried a special resonance. The victory came in the 50th anniversary year of the Spruce Meadows Masters, amplifying the sense of occasion as the Union Flag rose above a world-class field.

For British show-jumping, this was more than just a victory. It was a brilliant display of discipline, unity and courage on foreign soil, a statement to the world that Britain stands tall at the pinnacle of the sport.
