The Red Roses have once again etched their name into rugby history, sealing their 30th consecutive win with a commanding 47–7 triumph over Australia in Brighton.

In front of a roaring crowd of 30,443, England not only secured top spot in Pool A of the Women’s Rugby World Cup but also matched their world-record winning streak from 2022.

This emphatic performance now sets up a tantalising quarter-final clash with Scotland at Ashton Gate in Bristol next Sunday, where a semi-final place will be on the line.

Relentless England Power Past Wallaroos

Australia struck first blood after five minutes, with hooker Adiana Talakai driving over from close range, converted by Samantha Wood. Yet the Red Roses responded with trademark resilience. Abby Dow’s break and Zoe Harrison’s looping pass released Jess Breach to score her sixth try of the tournament on her 50th cap.

The forwards then took charge. Abbie Ward crossed after sustained pressure, before Sadia Kabeya powered over from the back of a maul. Both tries were converted by Harrison to give England a 19–7 lead at half-time.

Defence was just as ferocious as attack. The England Rugby Match Centre recorded 80 tackles by the forwards alone in the first 40 minutes, six players hitting double figures.

Second-Half Dominance

On resumption, England’s momentum was unstoppable. A sharp 50:22 kick from Ellie Kildunne pinned the Wallaroos deep, and Natasha Hunt’s quick thinking set up Kabeya for her second. Harrison’s boot stretched the lead to 26–7.

As the Wallaroos tired, England’s depth shone. Replacement prop Kelsey Clifford marked her arrival with two tries, both converted by Harrison, who reached her 200th point for England. Sarah Bern then crashed over to complete the Red Roses’ seventh try of the afternoon.

Australia threatened late but were denied by a try-saving tackle from Helena Rowland. Even reduced to 14 players after Bern’s yellow card, England held firm to secure a 47–7 victory.
