To the soundtrack of Holst‘s ‘I Vow To Thee My Country,’ Penny Mordaunt has launched her Conservative leadership campaign in a patriotic style video.

The three minute video speaks about the values of the United Kingdom, highlighting freedom, fairness, courage and compassion.

The MP shared the video this morning on Twitter, writing:

“Our leadership has to change. It needs to become a little less about the leader and a lot more about the ship.”

Penny’s campaign video features clips from across the country with Boris Johnson, Captain Tom Moore, Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill and other notable figures making an appearance.

The video also states the Conservative Party are the “most successful party in our nation’s history.”

The video then goes on to encourage the public to choose their leader “not because you agree with everything you say, choose them because you trust their motives.”

A statement on Penny’s campaign website says:

My party was elected to deliver a manifesto. The party was elected to deliver Brexit – and the benefits of it. We must all recover from the economic damage done by the pandemic and recent global shocks and build resilience.

To deliver on all these objectives we need to build a team, not just among the party but with every sector and every part of the UK. We need to modernise to deliver. That means reform in how Government operates. It means enabling others to do more to help. It means restoring some common cause, unity and pride.

I am also aware this is a critical inflection point for our country. I believe that a socialist or socialist-led coalition Government at the next election would be a disaster for the UK.

We must win the next election. We must be worthy of doing so. We cannot fail.

Penny Mordaunt finishes her campaign video saying:

“I’m ready to serve as the next leader of the Conservative Party”.
