Scotland’s ice-cool heroes have done it again – bagging the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship 2025 title in a nail-biting 5-4 win over Switzerland in Moose Jaw, Canada.
In a tense final worthy of a Hollywood script, skip Bruce Mouat and his lads held their nerve to snatch Scotland’s second world title in three years – sending fans wild from Saskatchewan to Stirling.
It was tight from the off, with the score swinging back and forth like a pub door on derby day. Scotland edged ahead early, but the Swiss struck back in the sixth end as Benoit Schwarz-Van Berkel smashed out a Scottish stone to pinch two points and take the lead at 3-2.
But Mouat wasn’t about to let this one slip. The seventh end saw him execute a silky tap-up for two, putting Scotland back on top at 4-3.
The Swiss, never ones to melt under pressure, levelled it up at 4-4 in the eighth. After a cagey ninth, it all came down to the final end.
And it was Mouat’s moment. Cool as a cucumber in a snowstorm, he delivered a perfect draw into an open house, scoring the one point that sealed the win — and the world crown.
Beaming with pride after lifting the trophy, Mouat said:
“We’ve had some really high highs this week, and some lows, but this is definitely the highest of the highs.
“Yesterday, we had to come out and play against two really tough teams and then today we came down the last with a four-foot draw, so you couldn’t ask for much more.”
He added:
“My team is unbelievable, they’ve all made some great shots. This is incredible. To experience another world championship in Canada is incredible and to win it is just the cherry on top. I’m just so proud.”
Swiss skip Yannick Schwaller, ever the sportsman, tipped his hat to the victors:
“We felt comfortable out there today, and I’m super happy with how the team performed. Hopefully we will come out on top next time.”

Scotland’s win also locked in Olympic Qualification Points for Great Britain ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games.

With two more spots up for grabs at the 2025 Olympic Qualification Event, the race is far from over.
