Team GB’s awesome swimming foursome of James Guy, Tom Dean, Matt Richards, and Duncan Scott have delivered a spectacular performance to retain their men’s 4×200 metres freestyle relay title.
There was no need for a photo finish on Tuesday evening with the Brits clinching a comfortable victory in the pool securing Britain the Olympic gold in Paris.
Great Britain’s final time of six minutes and 59.43 seconds was 1.35 seconds ahead of the United States, who took silver, with bronze medallists Australia trailing by an additional 1.2 seconds.
Matt Richards had narrowly missed out on gold in the individual event, claiming silver by just two-hundredths of a second, while Adam Peaty experienced a similar fate in the men’s 100 metres breaststroke.
Duncan Scott’s anchor leg of 1 minute 43.95 seconds was the fastest of the race and would have secured him gold in the individual event on Monday, where he finished a frustrating fourth, just 0.08 seconds off bronze and 0.15 seconds off the top spot.
Scott has now became Britain’s most decorated Olympic swimmer, joining Sir Chris Hoy on seven medals.
