Union baron Mick Lynch has launched a new campaign, vowing to extend union power across all sectors of the UK economy.

The outspoken RMT boss, who previously led a series of crippling rail strikes, has made clear his ambition to secure what he describes as “universal influence” over the nation’s industries.

Lynch’s declaration comes as Prime Minister Keir Starmer prepares to give his speech at the Labour Party conference later today. The timing of Lynch’s comments has raised eyebrows, with many interpreting it as a direct challenge to the Labour leader’s authority. His remarks have sparked fears of escalating union unrest and the potential for widespread industrial action if demands are not met.

Adding fuel to the fire, the Royal College of Nursing delivered a stinging blow to Chancellor Rachel Reeves during her conference address yesterday by rejecting the Government’s 5.5% pay rise offer, further signalling growing discontent among unions.

Lynch has called for a dramatic expansion of union powers, including making it easier to shut down entire industries if their demands are not met, a move that could bring the UK economy to its knees.

Former UKIP leader Henry Bolton has weighed in on the issue, warning:

“Be afraid. Be very afraid. Some people were prepared to risk a socialist government, and now they have one. I suspect most people haven’t yet grasped just how serious Mick Lynch and the ‘prize’ he seeks are.”

This stark warning comes as the country braces for potential unrest and uncertainty, with businesses and the public alike fearing the impact of widespread strikes and economic disruption. As tensions mount, all eyes will be on Starmer to see how he navigates this increasingly volatile situation. Will he stand up to union demands, or will he risk being seen as capitulating to their growing power?

The prime minister’s conference speech is billed to start at 2pm.

With the unions gearing up for a fight and Lynch’s bold declarations ringing in the air, the stakes have never been higher. The battle for the future of the UK’s economy has only just begun.
