GB News Radio has pulled off an astonishing feat by overtaking Talk Radio in the latest RAJAR figures for the third quarter of the year.
Despite being a simulcast of GB News TV, the station has firmly planted its flag in the UK’s radio landscape, clinching a weekly audience of 611,000 listeners.
This achievement comes on the back of GB News overtaking Times Radio last quarter, and with this new victory, it now holds the crown as the fastest-growing radio brand in the country.
The channel’s audience has surged by a staggering 54% over the past twelve months, with an 18% jump since August alone. Not only that, but listeners are staying tuned for 30% more hours, a clear indication that GB News Radio is keeping its audience engaged and coming back for more.
One of the standout successes has been Good Afternoon Britain hosted by Emily Carver and Tom Harwood. The show has seen a remarkable 95% increase in listening hours, cementing its position as a key driver of the channel’s growth.
While GB News celebrates, the picture is less rosy for others. LBC still reigns supreme among non-BBC stations, but Talk Radio has been knocked down a peg, and the BBC’s regional and local stations are also feeling the pressure. The latest RAJAR figures reveal a year-on-year drop of 14% in the weekly reach of BBC’s local outlets, with a 6% decline compared to last quarter. As listeners turn away from the once-dominant BBC, it’s evident that audiences are making their preferences heard loud and clear.
For GB News Radio, the future looks bright, as it continues to challenge the status quo and draw in more listeners eager for its alternative take on news and current affairs. With their audience rapidly expanding and rivals struggling to keep up, GB News is proving it’s more than just a flash in the pan – it’s a force to be reckoned with.
