The Labour government’s policies are proving as damaging to the UK economy as the Covid-19 pandemic, with new figures revealing a catastrophic slump in high street retail and business confidence.
In a devastating blow to retailers, November sales tumbled by 5.8%, marking the worst performance since the pandemic crippled the economy.
Online sales took a staggering 7.8% hit, while in-store sales were down 5.5%, raising alarm bells across the business sector.
Adding to the gloom, Christmas job vacancies—a crucial lifeline for both businesses and workers—fell by 12.9% this year, leaving many wondering if Labour’s economic mismanagement is robbing the festive season of its sparkle.

Perhaps most alarming is the sharp decline in business confidence, which plunged to -65, its lowest level since the height of the Covid crisis. A leading retail executive, speaking under the condition of anonymity, described the situation as dire:
“The current government’s policies are choking the life out of high streets and online businesses alike. This level of damage is comparable to the darkest days of the pandemic.”
