Farmers across the UK are gearing up for a massive National Day of Unity on January 25th, demanding the Government scrap a controversial new tax that threatens to devastate family farms.
The protest will see farmers gather in towns from Land’s End to Shetland and from the Giant’s Causeway to Dover, sending a clear message to Parliament: “We won’t back down until this unfair tax is properly reviewed and put under public scrutiny.”
The protest, organised by the NFU in collaboration with NFU Cymru, NFU Scotland, and the Ulster Farmers’ Union, is designed to highlight the critical role family farms play in Britain’s food supply chain and rural heritage.
Events will vary by region, but three simple messages will unite farmers from all corners of the UK:
- This tax is badly thought out and will crush family farming in Britain.
- Public support means everything to farmers.
- We are not going away – this campaign will continue until the tax is stopped.
NFU President Tom Bradshaw said the day will be a chance for farmers to make their voices heard. He added:
“Farmers haven’t taken this destructive policy lying down, and we won’t give up. There is too much at risk—our families, our future, and our heritage.
“This date will give everyone who wants to support family farms an opportunity to stand united, to show strength, and to send a message to Government: stop the family farm tax now.”
A Show of Strength
Bradshaw praised the overwhelming public support farmers have received, calling on anyone who values Britain’s family farms and high-quality food to join the effort.
He said:
“The 25th is not just for the farming community, but for everyone who believes in the importance of family farms. Together, we can show the Government that Britain’s farmers deserve to be better valued and supported.”

The NFU has promised to release more details about events in specific regions in early January. Local farming leaders will take charge of organising activities, ensuring every region has a chance to join the movement.
The National Day of Unity comes as farmers face growing pressure from rising costs and tightening regulations, with the family farm tax seen as the final straw.
