If the right pledged a future windfall tax on renewables operators and a double council tax on every eyesore erected, it would bring Labour’s Net Zero extremism to a screeching halt—long before they can do lasting damage, explains Great British PAC‘s Policy Director Andrew Hunt.
The British countryside—our rolling green hills, our quaint villages, our breathtaking coastline—is under siege.
Not from housing developments or infrastructure projects designed to improve lives, but from mile upon mile of ghastly, inefficient wind farms, soulless solar panel fields, and hulking great pylons that rip through our rural heartlands.
And what is this all in aid of? Mad Miliband’s net zero on steroids—a plan so reckless, so wildly detached from economic and environmental reality, that it threatens to bury Britain in debt while making the countryside an industrial wasteland.
But fear not! There is a simple, elegant, and entirely fair way to kill this madness before it does irreparable harm—a windfall tax on renewables operators and constructors, plus putting a double council tax on every unpopular eyesore they inflict upon our landscape.
MAKE THEM PAY—AND WATCH THEM RUN
The renewables industry has gorged itself on billions in subsidies over the past decade, laughing all the way to the bank while ordinary Britons are clobbered with ever-rising energy bills.
The next centre-right government should recoup those subsidies through a windfall tax, forcing the industry to pay back what it has taken from taxpayers. And while we’re at it, let’s put double council tax on every grotesque pylon, every soulless substation, and every wind farm that despoils our green and pleasant land.
Why? Because Lord knows local authorities need the cash! And more importantly, because this simple move would utterly torpedo investment in Miliband’s deranged scheme.
These projects are long-term plays, just like North Sea oil. The companies and investors behind them are cautious, pension trustee types—the sort who flee at the first whiff of tax uncertainty, cash flow risk, or stranded assets. If they think their projects will be penalised or taxed into oblivion, they will pull everything.
No investors, no projects. No projects, no net zero lunacy. Simple as that.
AND THE BEST PART? BRITAIN WINS.
What do we do with the money? We deliver on the £500 energy bill promise. Imagine that—a policy that slashes bills, fills council coffers, and saves our countryside from destruction.
Britain doesn’t need to rely on imported energy. We are fast becoming world leaders in small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs)—far greener, far more reliable, and far more British than a field full of wind turbines that work only when the weather permits. Britain is also close to fusion breakthroughs. Watch this space.
Meanwhile, China and the US are going full ‘drill, baby, drill’ mode, securing their energy futures while Miliband & Co. want to chain Britain to expensive, unreliable, and landscape-ruining projects. We must be energy independent, and we must be smart about it.
Dame Andrea Jenkyns who is a director of Net Zero Watch and is running to be Lincolnshire Mayor for Reform UK, told the Conservative and Reformer Post:
“This Net Zero madness is crushing Britain—driving up bills, wrecking our countryside, and handing control of our energy to foreign interests. It’s time to fight back. A windfall tax on renewables giants would claw back the billions they’ve taken in subsidies and give hard-working Brits the relief they deserve. If I’m elected Mayor of Lincolnshire, I’ll stand against these ugly, inefficient monstrosities blighting our landscape and push for real energy independence—investing in nuclear, clean British energy, and putting local people first.”
CONCLUSION: SAVE OUR COUNTRYSIDE, SAVE OUR ECONOMY
A windfall tax on renewables operators and a double whammy of council tax on every eyesore they erect would do more than just raise revenue. It would slam the brakes on Labour’s net zero extremism, protect our beautiful countryside, and ensure that Britain remains a place of innovation—not a dumping ground for failed green experiments.
So let’s be bold. Let’s be smart. Let’s make them pay—and let’s use that money to power Britain in a way that works for us, not against us.
