Britain’s skeleton stars have smashed records as Matt Weston clinched his second successive Overall World Cup title, while Marcus Wyatt made history by securing a stunning British 1-2 finish in the final standings.
Weston, who trains at the University of Bath, sealed the title despite finishing eighth in Lillehammer—his only race this season without a podium finish. The defending champ proved his dominance once again, defending the IBSF World Cup crown he first won last year.
Meanwhile, team-mate Marcus Wyatt ensured a landmark moment for British Skeleton by taking silver in the Overall World Cup rankings, securing an unprecedented one-two for the squad.
Wyatt’s season ended on a high with bronze in Lillehammer, which also doubled as the European Championships, meaning he bagged European silverbehind China’s Qinwei Lin. Agonisingly, he missed out on back-to-back continental titles by just one-hundredth of a second.
Weston, now firmly among the sport’s greats, said:
“To come away with two Crystal Globes in a row and do something no British man has ever done is pretty special. I don’t think what I’ve achieved this season and over the past few years has sunk in yet and it probably won’t until I retire.”
But the medal haul didn’t stop there! Britain’s Amelia Coltman shone in the women’s race, storming to World Cup bronze and European silver after two superbly consistent runs. Team-mates Tabby Stoecker and Freya Tarbit also put in strong performances, finishing 10th and 14th, respectively.

The British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association athletes also complete their elite strength and conditioning training at the Team Bath Sports Training Village.
With Britain’s skeleton stars hitting top form, all eyes now turn to the Olympics—where Weston, Wyatt, and Coltman will be looking to turn their World Cup success into Olympic gold!
