Campaigners and victims of radical transgender ideologies will join the #StopTheTrial protest against the new puberty blockers trial outside the Department of Health and Social Care tomorrow (Wednesday 17 December).
Supported by several politicians and multiple campaign groups, including Rosie Duffield MP and Baroness Fox of Buckley, the protest calls on Wes Streeting to cancel plans to run puberty blocker trials on young children.
Critics say the trial ignores existing evidence and will irreversibly damage hundreds of young children through medical castration and ineffective treatment rather than giving them the support they need.
Christian Legal Centre clients who have been affected by transgender ideology and treatments, including two of the Darlington Nurses and Jennifer Melle, will attend the protest.
Those attending the protest include:
- Bethany Hutchison and Annice Grundy, two of the Darlington Nurses, who are challenging the hospital where they work over being forced to share a changing room with a biologically male colleague who identifies as a woman called ‘Rose’.
- Pete Benjamin, who lived as a transgender woman and underwent irreversible surgery. After becoming a Christian, he reverted back to his male identity. He was irreversibly harmed by affirmative treatment, and struggles with the ramifications every day, saying: “I lived as a woman and now I regret it. My body is damaged by the NHS.”
- Jennifer Melle, a nurse with a spotless record, who called a convicted male paedophile patient – who identifies as a woman – ‘Mr’ while discussing his treatment with a doctor and has been suspended ever since.
- Dr David Mackereth, who had been an A&E doctor for 26 years, lost his job with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) after refusing to call a hypothetical 6-foot bearded male client “Madame”.
- Nigel and Sally Rowe, who challenged trans-affirming policies when their sons’ primary school allowed 6-year-olds to cross dress. After raising their concerns, they were told that if their son ‘misgendered’ the other child, it could be considered a form of bullying. Their successful legal challenge led to the Conservative Government’s draft guidance on gender-questioning children.
Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern and the Christian Legal Centre, said: “Allowing and encouraging a child to take puberty blockers is harmful. It causes irreversible damage to their bodies and bolsters the lie that they were born in the wrong body. This is not truthful or compassionate. This trial must be stopped.”
