The Queen has approved today the appointment of Lord Frost CMG as a Minister of State in the Cabinet Office.
Former Brexit negotiator Lord Frost will be a full member of Cabinet and his appointment will take effect from 1 March 2021.
Lord Frost’s responsibilities will involve forging a new relationship with the EU going forward as Britain competes as an independent trading and sovereign nation. Downing Street said Lord Frost “will seek to maximise post-Brexit trading opportunities when he becomes a full cabinet member next month.”
The former Brexit negotiator will also replace Michael Gove as chair of a committee on implementing the Brexit withdrawal deal.
Mr Gove will keep his seat at the cabinet table.
Taking to Twitter this afternoon, Lord Frost said: “I am hugely honoured to have been appointed Minister to take forward our relationship with the EU after Brexit. In doing so I stand on the shoulders of giants & particularly those of @michaelgove who did an extraordinary job for this country in talks with EU over the past year.”
