GREAT BRITISH NEWS: Top positive news stories from across the UK this week

There are weeks when I sit down to write this and wonder if it’s worth continuing. Truly. Finding good news under this Labour government is like trying to grow roses in the dark… it takes patience, optimism, and a deep love of Britain to keep at it.

To be honest, there have been plenty of times I’ve nearly stopped altogether. But I won’t. Because however grim things may look from Westminster, there is still greatness in this country… quietly, determinedly, brilliantly happening every single day.

We must keep celebrating the wins, even if they are few and far between. Because they matter. They remind us who we are: a nation that endures, leads, and never stops believing in itself.

So once again this week, here at the Conservative Post, we’ve sought out the stories that prove Britain remains a force to be reckoned with. While Labour dithers, divides, and embarrasses us on the world stage, the British people continue to innovate, inspire, and succeed against all odds. Stay strong. This awful period won’t last forever. And when it’s over, Britain will still be standing tall proud, free, and full of promise.

This week, there were flashes of hope and triumph across the country that deserve to be celebrated. In Parliament, Conservatives scored a major victory for free speech, forcing Labour to scrap its disastrous attempt to impose a vague and dangerous “Islamophobia definition” that threatened to silence honest debate. It was a vital reminder that the values of liberty and truth still have defenders in the House of Commons. Labour tried to muzzle the nation… and they failed.

Elsewhere, the Oxford Union made headlines as union members voted to remove their president-elect, George Abaraonye, following a vote of no confidence. It was a small but powerful example of accountability in action, a rejection of entitlement and hypocrisy that echoes a growing mood across Britain.

Down in Wales, Labour’s own foundations are crumbling. As one of our most-read stories this week revealed, Keir Starmer’s party has lost its soul in the valleys. The Welsh wipeout is real, proof that even in its supposed heartlands, Labour’s grip is slipping. The people who built and believed in that movement are waking up to what it has become: a hollow, bureaucratic machine more interested in slogans than service.

Meanwhile, our nation’s institutions once again showed the world what true leadership and respect look like. At Windsor Castle, President Zelensky was honoured by His Majesty the King in a moving display of solidarity and decency, qualities sorely missing in the Labour benches of modern politics. While Labour’s foreign policy confuses allies and comforts adversaries, the Crown quietly continues to project Britain’s strength and values with dignity.

Industry, too, had its moment to shine. JCB, one of Britain’s greatest engineering success stories, marked its 80th anniversary with a £100 million investment, proof that British enterprise is alive and kicking. For eight decades, JCB has embodied what this country does best: build, create, and lead the world through grit and innovation. While Labour lectures, JCB invests. That says it all. Happy birthday too to Lord Bamford who we know we reads this column!

In the world of science and medicine, another breakthrough made us proud to be British. Blind patients have regained partial sight thanks to a revolutionary bionic chip which was trialled right here in the UK, a triumph of human ingenuity and compassion. In a world so often filled with despair, science continues to restore hope and change lives.

Defence and national pride were also front and centre. The Royal Navy confirmed its Martlet missile is now fully front-line ready after a successful series of autumn trials, bolstering Britain’s ability to protect our seas. On Trafalgar Day this week, we once again remembered Britain’s glorious naval victory, a day that defined courage, leadership, and national brilliance. How fitting that, even now, the Royal Navy continues to uphold that same proud legacy, leading the first NATO-commanded mission to monitor Russian warships in UK waters this week. Our sailors remain the quiet guardians of freedom, just as they were over two centuries ago.

And finally, amidst all the politics and pressure, a touch of natural wonder. Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire became the first UK nature reserve to record an astonishing 10,000 species—an achievement that reminds us of the beauty we are blessed with, and the responsibility we have to protect it.

So yes, it’s hard finding good news under Labour. It’s exhausting, frustrating, and often disheartening. But it’s there. Every week. In our labs, our shipyards, our schools, and our skies. Britain doesn’t stop being brilliant just because it’s badly governed. And as long as that brilliance continues to shine, we’ll keep bringing you the good news, because our great nation deserves nothing less.

Stay strong. This won’t last forever. The greatness of Britain runs deeper than politics, and one day soon, it will roar again.
