The Scottish Conservatives have declared victory ahead of the anticipated resignation of Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf later today.
Douglas Ross, leader of the Scottish Conservative, asserted that Mr. Yousaf had opted to step down rather than confront an impending “humiliating defeat” in a vote of no confidence later in the week.
Ross stated: “The Scottish Conservatives have fulfilled our pledge to provide robust opposition to Humza Yousaf and the SNP. We have compelled Humza Yousaf to resign from his post due to his repeated failures in serving Scotland. Confronted with our vote of no confidence, the SNP leader has chosen to resign rather than face a humiliating loss. While I extend personal well wishes to Humza Yousaf and his family as he departs from office.”
Ross continued: “We cannot overlook the harm he inflicted upon families and households across Scotland by raising taxes, allowing NHS waiting lists to escalate, and curtailing free speech.”
Humza Yousaf is expected to announce his resignation as Scotland’s First Minister at about 12 noon.
