Why I’m Backing Robert Jenrick for Conservative Party Leader: A Call for Unity and a Return to Core Values

As editor, I’ve often found myself standing at the crossroads of our party’s many vibrant, and yes, sometimes thunderous debates.

Today, I want to share with you my decision—a decision that I believe is rooted in the best interests of our party and, indeed, our country. I am throwing my support behind Robert Jenrick for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

Now, many of you will know I was originally very vocal in my admiration for a more forthright leader in the mould of Suella or Priti. But hear me out, I believe Rob is now not only the right choice; he is THE only choice we have with this current crop of MPs if we are to restore unity, strength, and that unmistakable Conservative spirit that once made us the envy of Westminster.

You see, I’ve had the privilege of knowing Rob personally. He’s a man who listens, a man who learns, he’s brilliantly clever and—brace yourselves—he’s a politician unafraid to admit when he’s erred. A rare quality in this line of work, wouldn’t you say? He knows the importance of loyalty, he understands the devastating price of internal division, and he has pledged he would bring back that one name we all know resonates—Boris.

Now, let’s face it: many of us hold a special place in our hearts for Boris. This is a man who could galvanise a nation, who could slice through the cacophony of political noise, who could deliver a thumping majority when it was needed most. And yes, he had his enemies within the ranks, but his legacy, his dynamism, still stirs the grassroots. Rob has vowed to rekindle that spirit—to restore the energy, the vision, the sheer determination that defined the Conservative movement in those heady days of 2019. And this, dear readers, is why he has my unwavering support.

Now, to those of us who believe in taking back control—truly, not just in rhetoric but in action—Robert is also a breath of fresh air. He has taken a bold stance on the European Court of Human Rights. Unlike some who dither, Rob is clear: we must leave the ECHR if we are to regain full control over our borders, our laws, and our future. He speaks my language, and, more importantly, he speaks the language of you, our loyal readers—the language of the silent majority who just want a government to do what was promised. Rob wants to enshrine our rights in a new British Bill of Rights, tailored to our values and our needs.

And he’s not afraid to confront the tough issues. On illegal migration, Rob has set a course to increase deportations fivefold, by cutting aid and suspending visas to countries that refuse to take back their own citizens. On legal migration, just as he did when he held office, he’s committed to capping numbers, setting strict limits decided by Parliament—not by faceless bureaucrats. This is the kind of leadership we need: strong, uncompromising, and unafraid to make the tough calls.

When it comes to the economy, Rob is talking sense. He’s focused on delivering cheap, reliable energy, on getting people off welfare and into meaningful work, and on offering real skills, not saddling our young with low-value degrees that do little more than fill the coffers of academia. He knows, as we do, that the NHS is a public service to be reformed, not a golden calf to be worshipped. He has the courage to bring forward the changes that will make a real difference to people’s lives.

Now, I know there are those who still hold a candle for Kemi Badenoch. But we must remember her role in those dark days of 2022, when Boris was brought down—not just by his opponents but by those who should have stood steadfast beside him. Kemi’s infamous WhatsApp messages urging colleagues to “do it, do it, do it” when the coup was brewing cannot be brushed under the carpet. That was a moment of disloyalty, and I, for one, cannot back a candidate who played such a pivotal role in our party’s turmoil.

What we need is loyalty, unity, and a leader who can bring us back together—not one who fans the flames of division. And that leader is Robert Jenrick. He’s willing to mend our fractures, to confront the left-wing establishment, and to bring back the leadership that puts British interests first. He knows that Labour’s sleaze-ridden government must be held to account and that we must win back those voters we lost with common-sense, conservative, no-nonsense policies.

So, vote for Robert Jenrick. Not because he is perfect—no one is—but because he’s our best chance of rekindling the fire that burned so brightly in 2019. He’s our best hope for uniting the right, for bringing back the energy that delivered Brexit, and, yes, for bringing Boris back into the fold.

The future of our party and our country is at stake. With Rob at the helm, we can put Britain back on track, restore our values, and make the Conservative Party a beacon of strength once more. In the words of the man himself, let’s get it done.
