Brits are bracing for a bone-chilling weekend as temperatures are forecast to plunge to a teeth-chattering -10C, with snowstorms set to sweep the country.
The Met Office has issued a 45-hour yellow weather warning starting midday Saturday until 9am Monday, as heavy snow and icy conditions are expected across the UK.
The Met Office are warning some rural communities could be completely cut off, and schools may struggle to reopen next week. Forecasters also warn of disruption to rail, road, and air travel, as well as potential power cuts and mobile phone outages in affected areas.
From today (Thursday), temperatures are expected to nosedive, with parts of Scotland set to shiver at -10C in snow-covered areas. The capital isn’t escaping the cold either, with London forecast to drop to -5C, while Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow could hit lows of -6C to -7C.
Where Will the Snow Hit?
The snow is expected to hit north Scotland on Thursday, with an ice warning in place for northern England until Thursday morning. By Saturday, snow will sweep across the Midlands, Wales, and northern England, with 5cm predicted in low-lying areas and as much as 20-30cm on high ground in the Pennines.
The UK Health Security Agency has activated a yellow cold health alert, warning of “significant impacts” on health and social care. The elderly and those with health conditions are particularly at risk, with a likely spike in cold-related deaths.

Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan urged Brits to keep an eye on the forecast, especially those with travel plans.
“It’s definitely going to start off as snow in many places, but the question is how quickly that snow melts and turns back to rain,” he explained. “The warning is a heads-up for now and will likely be updated frequently.”
Brits are being urged to plan ahead, as the cold snap could bring widespread disruption.
